Pre-race routine:

Got there early and laid my stuff out, went over my transition plan. We waited too long for race to start, standing barefoot on asphalt.

What would you do differently?:

hope that the kayaks would not pin us in to a 10' lane. Had to stop a few times as the guy in front of me started breaststoking and trying not to hit the kayaks

did not take time to put gloves on in transition and should have, pace slow at start to do that.
What would you do differently?:

just quicken the pace at which I do everything. Learn jump on and into shoes.

Work on bricks. Actually train for the run. Had not run in a few months.

The boat was being tossed around. Someone noted that there were whitecaps on the waves. Another guy said, “This is going to be challenging.” I began to wonder what he meant by 'challenging'.

I was passing others who were saying, "Good job, 587" (that was my race number). People were cheering me on. These were the nicest people I have ever been around!
