Sunny
Total Time = 13h 02m
Overall Rank = 105/163
Age Group = 50-54
Age Group Rank = 8/18
Pre-race routine:

Ate a cup of unsweetend applesauce and 12 oz of water with electrolyes in it.
Event warmup:

None
Swim
  • 1h 35m 31s
  • 4224 yards
  • 02m 16s / 100 yards
Comments:

I'm slow. Need to get faster!!
Transition 1
  • 10m 43s
Comments:

I took my time and changed into dry bike shorts. Could have done it faster. Perhaps my buttocks will be better aclimated to my saddle and I won't have to change bike shorts.
What would you do differently?:

could drink extra fluids while riding instead of drinking before getting on the bike.
Bike
  • 6h 23m 32s
  • 112 miles
  • 17.52 mile/hr
Comments:

I could not get my heart rate under control. I was in the low 150s and high 140s most of the race. Apparently, I did not drink enough fluids on the ride for I got VERY dehydrated during the run.
What would you do differently?:

Slow it down a little, or get in better shape and drink more fluids during the ride.
Transition 2
  • 10m 4s
Comments:

I took my time in transition and changed to dry running shorts.
What would you do differently?:

Will try to run in bike shorts next time.
Run
  • 5h 42m 42s
  • 26.2 miles
  • 13m 05s  min/mile
Post race
Warm down:

I soaked in an ice water bath. Helped a little, but I needed more ice.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I got dehydrated and it got to me. I also went a little too hard on bike.

Event comments:

This was the most organized races I have EVER attended. VERY well run. The course is flat and fun. My family said it was awesome from a spectator point of view. They saw me many times and they could get close to the competitors. They said they liked it better than other races attended.

Executing this full Ironman plan for 17 weeks would give people with one Ironman under their belts very good preparation for a 2nd and 3rd. Preferably, you should have a 6:30 or faster HIM time.

This Intermediate 20 week plan is a quick ramp up in overall volume, but with 20 weeks to train only, it is a gradual and safe approach because of the alternating weeks of the long run/bike.

This training plan is written to prepare you for your first Ironman. While just a beginner’s plan, the hours per week start at a significant 8 hours.
