Subject: Time to Commit
The other day, I gave some advice to Stina76 about setting small goals. So now is the time to for me to set one and commit myself to my first competition in 15 years. I am sending in my application for a 5k run on December 27. Running is my week event and something I need to focus on. I have built up my endurance in the swimming and biking department although I definately have a lot more work to do. I will commit the next three weeks to mainly a running program with occasional swims at the y with my wife and a bike ride if for some reason we have a nice day before the month of March. I am even going to be bold enough to predict a 32 minute time which equals a ten minute/mile pace. Next step will be the Y Tri here in Rochester in February. It is an indoor triathlon. That should be interesting.

great time to commit kgart!  nothing like a little post-xmas run to burn some of those extremely yummy but unecessary calories...but my!...they r good.

anyways, u may be one of the first to try out part of the new log updates with that race report your gonna dish out...if u don't log now...u definitely will come 1.5 weeks.

good luck on the 5k...10min/mile...not bad!!!  we r gonna hold u to it!

Good job! I have always found that a committment like that makes training and nutrition easier. It's one thing to train just to be fit and another for a specific goal!

You are an inspiration! I have been considering signing up for a run myself. Now I will Look more seriously for one in my area over this holiday season. I had one in mind for New Year's Day but they have changed the time to later in the day and I have a commitment then. I will make a more serious search for something else. Running is definitely my weakest link -- I will be lucky to do an 11 minute mile!!!

Thanks for the motivation...

HI all, This should be an RR but I did not compete in the 5k because of illness. My wife and sister in law have been sick all week and I started to comed down with it on Christmas Day. I have not done any training since then either and today is supposed to be a beautiful day here. Close to 50 and sunny. I would have loved to dust off the bike and put my new cat eye computer on it and ride a little but I can barely breathe. I will locate another race. Hope all is well.
Kevin

Sorry to hear that you have been sick! Hang in there and remember that it's not about the races that we do, it is about what we learn about ourselves everytime we take those small steps.

Subject: RE: Time to Commit
My plan to participate in a 5K over this holiday season has had to be abandoned for a variety of reasons -- mostly because of inconvenience of date scheduled, and family obligations. So I too will be looking for another later in January or February. I have at least been able to do a little training (even if not enough) and intend to increase that once these holidays are behind me.

This brings me to a question for the group. This may be available on the site somewhere, but I am interested in a training plan for a sprint triathlon I intend to do on the 1st of June. When whould I start *serious* training, and just what is that? I would like something pretty simple, and adaptable to my schedule -- like being able to do any of the three sports on any day rather than each on a certain day. Commitments carve the days I can do certain of the sports.

Any help will be well---- helpful.

Thanks, Nancytris

Nancytris, Here's a link to the 13 week sprint program on beginnertriathlete.com:

I'd just work on base and such till you get 13 weeks out. Good luck

hopefully in about 4 hours i will have the new site up with new programs....for the sprint will have a 16 and 20 week program each featuring about 5 variations to fit different times u have to train and weaknesses.  also will have michaels and my own programs which will lead u up to the sprint.  they are detailed enough if u would like to mix things up like the days and stuff....soon....soon....
