Subject: First Full IM questions - gear bags
I'm racing IMAZ this weekend and just wanted to confirm my understanding of the gear bags (not special needs) as I have to turn them in tomorrow. Do I put all my run and bike gear (helmet, bike shoes, running hat, etc...) in the gear bags and then somehow get them back on race day?

I did IM Lake Stevens and I was able to just being all that stuff and set it up in transition before the race.

So thanks in advance for helping me out on this question. I would rather ask the dumb question than not get it right and mess up something come race day.

In the two IM events that I have done we had a designated numbered spot to hang the bike and run gear bags in transition. These were placed at the same time as bike check in. During T1 and T2 you access these as needed, swim stuff into bike bag at T1 and bike gear into run bag at T2. These bags were then collected with bike at checkout. Athlete Guide and transition map seems to support this. Basically no gear can be left by your bike.

Thanks for the reply, the more I research it the better idea I am getting about it. It is just a little strange since this is the first race I've done that has been set up like this. Should be set for gear turn in tomorrow and then race on Sunday. Thanks again.

Also...you will have access to them race morning for last minute stuff. That you may have forgot or did not want to sit out all day and night. You can.pick them up after the races or give a person a ticket you will be given to pick them up while you are on the run. Good luck

Page 7-8 of the athlete guide do a very good job of explaining the bags.

I was pretty excited to test out a triathlon-specific gear bag. I'm on the lookout for something functional, comfortable, and maybe even a bit stylish.

Until now, I have shied away from triathlon-specific gear bags. They were just too small for my needs. So imagine my skepticism the day the RRS Triathlon Backpack showed up on my door.

Tuesday April 5, 2005 marks the 1 year anniversary of my departure from my old life - a life consuming bags of fried pork rinds and way less activity than a person should be able to get away with.

I have seen cyclists go to a bike shop the day before a race expecting their problem to be fixed, only to be told the shop cannot complete the job in time.
