I just picked up a CO2 inflation kit to carry during races. I normally just carry a mini-pump on training rides.

What's the best way to store these things? Do you keep the cartridge and pump separate and then load the cartridge when/if needed? Or do you keep it loaded all the time? If you keep it loaded all the time, do you ever loose any CO2? I realize the little cartridges are not expensive, but it seems a waste to keep it loaded if it is going to leak.

Thanks,
Matt

You can keep the pump threaded without puncturing the cartridge. Just screw it on lightly.

As for storage, I just have two tubes, levers, three cartridges, and pump in a water bottle behind my saddle. On my road bike, I have the same gear zip tied under my saddle (the Flight on my road bike has more room than the Adamo on the tri bike). And a road bike looks silly with a water bottle on the back.

x2 on what to carry and about the pump assembled, just not tight enough to puncture cartridge.

We will take a peek into the lowly saddlebag to see what needs to be in there in case of emergency. Much of this may be common sense, some might surprise you, and some are simply just my opinion.
