Pre-race routine:

Usual breakfast with 2 pieces of gluten free cinnamon bread and a banana. Had a hammer bar about an hour before the race.
Swim
  • 33m 44s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 15s / 100 meters
Comments:

I obviously just suck at swimming....next
What would you do differently?:

Hire a swim coach
Transition 1
  • 01m 37s
Comments:

The goat heads were bad in the transition area so you pretty much had to carry your bike to the street. Other than that - pretty smooth
Bike
  • 1h 26m 31s
  • 25.86 miles
  • 17.93 mile/hr
Comments:

This course is a bit deceiving when looking at the pre-race profile. The road surface is great but it has some good climbs but some GREAT downhills for making up speed. Finished with 889 ft of elevation gain. That is not bad for a 26mi ride.

When I came out of the water, I was waaayyy behind everyone. I was able to pass a bunch throughout the course and maintain a consistent speed. This is really a fun course because of the downhills and the speed you can maintain.

It was hot out and I drank both bottles I had just before the finish. Had some Chomps on the ride.
What would you do differently?:

As I always say - I need to train on more hills
Transition 2
  • 01m 8s
Comments:

Quick turn - grabbed a water bottle that I later realized was warm....Yummy!
Run
  • 58m 43s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 09m 28s  min/mile
Comments:

I felt terrible starting the run. It was hot, I was drinking warm Gatorade, and I was praying for an aid station. That station finally came by on the first major turn. I was able to hydrate and put some water in my bottle.

When I got to Riley rd, I could see the people finishing and I think that motivated me to press a little harder. You run two loops for the Oly. There is an aid station you will pass.....four times. That was a big help.

After finishing my final loop, all the runners have to go up a dirt road and back to the finish line. Felt good but tired finishing.
What would you do differently?:

Need to run more bricks
Post race
Warm down:

Got some water and went and jumped into the blue hole diving area. Water was cold but it felt perfect. Great idea Jeremy!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

ummm.....I suck at swimming

Event comments:

This is good race and the only Olympic distance race in the state this year. The race did start about 15min late but no biggie.

Andie with Fit Fund runs an awesome race and invest a ton of effort to ensure it goes smooth. Good Job Andie!

The first time I ventured into the deep murky green lake and could not see the bottom my muscles tensed and my imagined fears surfaced. What exactly lies beneath?
