Comments:

What can I say. I was prepared for everything but the altitude.
What would you do differently?:

I plan to do this race next year. Instead of making the July trip, I plan to get to Pikes Peak two weeks beofre the race and camp at Barr Camp. I will go to the summit each day for two weeks hoping to aclimate sufficiently to be able to run without sickness.

Course: The start of Pikes Peak Marathon is 1 mile below the start of Barr Trail Mountain Race yet I reached Barr Camp 18 minutes faster. I took the w's very slow and was bale to run much more from the top of the w's to Barr Camp and I felt great all the way to A-Frame. A-Frame is right below tree line at around 12,500 feet elevation. Immediately after A-Frame, my right arm went numb but I didn't know why. Within a half mile above tree line I began to just stop for no reason. I began vomitting at around a mile above tree line and dragged mydelf up the remaining 1.5 miles to the summit stopping every 100 yards or so to rest or puke. I even had to stop 30 feet from the turn around for several minutes. Once I got going down, I began to recover. When I reached tree line, I was able to really run and made up on hour on Ruth Anne catching her 20 feet from the finish.
