Sunny
Total Time = 1h 21m 14s
Overall Rank = 83/311
Age Group = M50-54
Age Group Rank = 10/19
Pre-race routine:

Get up early and eat a little to get my body going.
Event warmup:

None. With my daughter who did the duathlon.
Swim
  • 10m 24s
  • 500 meters
  • 02m 05s / 100 meters
What would you do differently?:

Need to swim more, and get some open water swims in. Largely for comfort. I can swim much farther than this in the pool, just don't feel as comfortable in open water.
Transition 1
  • 03m 32s
Comments:

Includes a fair amount of running up from the river, and I mean "up".
Bike
  • 38m 44s
  • 13 miles
  • 20.14 mile/hr
What would you do differently?:

Need to get more riding in. Otherwise I did very well.
Transition 2
  • 01m 36s
Run
  • 27m
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 43s  min/mile
Comments:

No mileage markers on the run. Couldn't tell how I was doing.
Post race
Warm down:

Drank water and waited for my daughter; the Duathlon started after I did.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Swimming. Just more endurance training. I did fine for me.

Event comments:

Course needs mileage markers. A few on the bike and at least every mile on the 5K run. Start/End of the bike course is very tight. Not enough racks for the bikes. The racks were absolutely packed with bikes.

In addition to writing your race number on each upper arm, they also wrote your age on your calf. This allowed me to see who was passing me by in the bike section of this race.

The boat was being tossed around. Someone noted that there were whitecaps on the waves. Another guy said, “This is going to be challenging.” I began to wonder what he meant by 'challenging'.

Since your “A” race is your marathon, which you stated in your question, this should be your main focus. I encourage you to taper a bit for the sprint distance triathlon.
