Subject: RE: Body roll and 2 beat kick Originally posted by BurchibHi all, Wondering if anyone has some good tips to improve body roll during swim. I know mine needs improvement. I roll, but not enough. Consequently, breathing suffers a little more than it should, and I can feel it in neck. Also, I have adopted the 2 beat kick. This is going from almost no kick to the 2 beat. Any thoughts or opinions on the 2 beat kick? I kind of like it Thanks! You'll find that a two-beat kick works better for triathlon. You kinda want to keep the glycogen in your legs for later in the day so no sense using a 4-6 beat kick when age-group triathletes get so little of their propulsion from the kick anyways. To improve your body rotation you can use the "Fingertip Drag Drill." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XITzpum5lxA Be aware - this drill can cause discomfort if you don't have good flexibility in your shoulders. You should strive to keep your hand as close to the side of your body as you can, however if there is pain in your shoulder(s), move your hand out away from your body to reduce the impingement. If moving your hand out does not relieve the pain, STOP doing the drill. Understand that the point of the drill is to force body rotation by keeping your hand close to your body so the more you move your hand away from your body, the less effective the drill becomes. Hope that helps. |
