Overcast
Total Time = 1h 18m 7s
Overall Rank = 132/175
Age Group = M 60-64
Age Group Rank = 8/8
Pre-race routine:

Like how Playtri handled this...never closed transition and had us arrive roughly in accordance with when they thought our swim would begin. So transition set up was pretty easy once I found a spot, especially since only three bikes were allowed on each rack. Got up and had toast, drove to the site, parked, and set up. Pretty easy.
Event warmup:

Little bit of stretching, plus the walk/ride from parking to transition.
Swim
  • 08m 36s
  • 300 meters
  • 02m 52s / 100 meters
Comments:

With a 50 meter length, each segment is a little more mentally and physically tiring than the 25 yard pool I'm used to, because you don't get that break. So overall my form kind of broke down as I got fatigued about halfway through. Never completely compromised anything, but I was glad to get out.
What would you do differently?:

Keep training. Nothing to be done about it.
Transition 1
  • 02m 45s
Comments:

About as expected. Pretty typical.
What would you do differently?:

Time and practice will naturally improve this, but not likely by much.
Bike
  • 28m 51s
  • 9 miles
  • 18.72 mile/hr
Comments:

Pretty decent short ride, not excessively hard. Flat course that made for generally easy bike leg. Fun ride.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. Satisfied.
Transition 2
  • 02m 52s
Comments:

Long run from bike-in to my spot, made slow in bike shoes. Since I'd not trained sockless I had to sit down and pull socks over my feet and tie my shoes. Going forward, with sockless training and quicker laces, I should be able to reduce this time, depending on how the transition is set up.
What would you do differently?:

As noted, train sockless and get some new laces in order to pick up some time in T2.
Run
  • 35m 6s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 11m 19s  min/mile
Comments:

Garmin measured run at 3.26, giving an average pace of 10:46. Garmin measured the 5K at 33:22. Given struggles I've had with running over last several months, it's hard to be disappointed with the result, regardless of the distance measured. My HR was, however, elevated for pretty much the whole thing, averaging in the 160s with a max of 172. Would love to do better but I'm just pleased I was able to manage a sub-11 minute mile for the actual distance run.
What would you do differently?:

Time to start bringing in some more distance.
Post race
Warm down:

Felt pretty decent afterwards, although it was raining when I finished. Just walked back to transition spot with a bottle of water and got packed up during the downpour, which stopped about the time I put on some shorts and a shirt over my race suit. Walked and rode back to the car.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Transition issues related to gear and practice to date, and not being fully conditioned for the run.

Event comments:

Only complaint I have is not starting on time. My wave was to go off between 8:15 and 8:30 and my actual start time was 8:56. Not too upset about it, though, since we're actually racing again and they're organizing it in a way to maintain distance and safety during a pandemic. It's been about 545 days since I last raced, so this was pretty cool.

I remembered the under-measuring as I was coming in on my second lap, and wondering how in the world was I going to beat 30 minutes when I still h ad a mile to go, when in actuality I only had about a quarter mile..
