Subject: tri - wheel selection at races
hi yall - does anyone have thoughts on wheel selection at triathlons? i remember seeing peter reid an ironman canada a couple years ago with a deep dish front wheel and a disc on the back. at kona this year it looked like he had a deep dish on the front and back. do some races allow disc wheels while others do not? or do people choose their wheels based on terrain? i guess a lot of peeps choose wheels based on whats on their bikes bc wheelsets aint cheap, so i might be speaking theoretically here. any thoughts wld be appreciated - thx - rob

Alot of their decision has to do with the wind condtions during the race. If they are expecting a lot of wind, the will not usually ride a disc on the rear. There are other factors that they consider also but from what I can gather it is based on condtions. Also on a hilly course they will consider factor such as the weight of the wheel and if it will hurt them on a climb. Just what I have been told.

Still Tri'n
