Age Group Rank = 18/36
Pre-race routine:

Grape Nuts w/a bananna. Amp and clif bar. Shower, load the jeep, go to QT for some coffee and off the St. Peters.
Event warmup:

Stretch, walk around and check everything out.
Swim
  • 09m 50s
  • 500 yards
  • 01m 58s / 100 yards
Comments:

Jumped in and it seemed like forever watching the clock tick. Do more flip turns. Who cares if you are in a pool with loads of others. My time would have been so much better.
What would you do differently?:

I would not have slowed down to pass others. Next time, I'm flying by them.
Transition 1
  • 03m 30s
Comments:

I wasted too much time with my top. I wore my cycling top. Only because I had a few bars in the back. Next time, it's the tri top. No futzing round! Also, no socks. Why waste time drying my feet and putting on socks when I could just jump on the bike with my cycling shoes. Need to practice with the rubber bands.
What would you do differently?:

Sans socks and top!!
Bike
  • 1h 13m 27s
  • 21 miles
  • 17.15 mile/hr
Comments:

On the last few miles, I felt my right calve tense up. I stopped peddleing to try and stretch it out. I thought it was okay. I'll tell you more about it on the run.
What would you do differently?:

86 the socks and cycling top. Oh, did I arlready mention that? That part of the T1 still pisses me off. I would drink more fluids and take in as many electrolites as I can.
Transition 2
  • 02m
Comments:

My T2 was nice and easy. I still for some reason get a little nervous comming into the T2. I don't want to come flying into the transition area. I heard a few volunteer yell at some people for not getting off their bikes when they should. At leas I have yet to fall. I say a young woman to that as she was trying to get out of her pedals.
What would you do differently?:

Try and take feet out of shoes and drop into a lower gear so I can spin faster to get ready for the run.
Run
  • 39m 17s
  • 4.8 miles
  • 08m 11s  min/mile
Comments:

I couldn' t drink any of the water they handed out. My throat didn't want to swallow. It wasn't 60 yards and my right leg decided it was going to throw a monkey in my wrench!!! I walked for five steps, stretched and deicided I'll show my calve who's boss!! Five minutes later, I was in no pain and had a good pace going!!
What would you do differently?:

Electrolytes...
Post race
Warm down:

Stretched, and walked around. Eat everything. Those burritos RULED!!!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not riding and running enough. I don't think I was hydrated enough.

Event comments:

I didn't stay for the after race events. I had plans of going home, showering and run off the Wentzville to harpon a deer.

Great race!  Were you cold coming out of the pool?  I'm not sure what I would have done there. Topless perhaps?

I swiped a burrito too. Damn it was tasty!!

I wasn't cold when I got out of the pool.  I thought that would have been a problem, but by the time I got over the bridge over 70, I was dried off.
