Subject: Winter maintenance program?
I competed (for the first time) in 2 sprint tris at the end of this '06 season. I am looking for a winter maintenanace program or suggestions. I am planning on doing olympic and half's next season after a few sprints in the beginning. Should I do a maintenance program or use a 20 week training program (with a few added easy weeks) that is "swim focused" (my weak sport) since the next tri I am planning on competeing in will be early March? Any and all sugestions welcome! Thanks!

I'm not sure if this is what you're *supposed* to do or not, but this is what DH and I did... We uploaded a 20-week HIM plan ending the day of the race, then imported the 7-10 hr winter maintenance that ends when the HIM plan begins.  It will put you partway into the winter maintenance plan by doing this way, but that's what we figured would be best.  The winter maintenance plans started out too easy for us anyway.... (I mean, after running 5 miles and swimming 2000y, the training plan starts out with 10min run & 400y swim).  We found ourselves getting bored easily, and with the skip in the winter maintenance, we're back on track now.

Good luck.

Look forward to 3 MORE 'Winter Maintenance' Plans in a month or so.  They will be all 8 weeks in length and will be each run, bike or swim focused.  These should offer up a lot more flexibility to focus on your limiters.
