Pre-race routine:

Drank a lot, peed a lot. Stretched in the porta-potty lines.
Event warmup:

Didn't do much of a warmup.
Run
  • 1h 24m 33s
  • 7.1 miles
  • 11m 55s  min/mile
Comments:

First 2 were fantastic! Started getting some knee pain in the third. By the fifth the pain was shooting down my leg, up my back and I felt like I was dragging my leg along with me. It really slowed me down....and actually brought me to tears at one point. I've had soreness in races before, but this is the first time I actually felt injured.
What would you do differently?:

Differently....I say this every year...TRAIN MORE. The race is so huge...there are many back of the pack joggers...and I continue to let myself be one of them. I'm hoping that all the tri-training will inspire me to really get in the game. My couch potato friends think it is amazing that I can run seven miles...but I'm not satisfied.
Post race
Warm down:

No real warm down...except the long walk back to the car and some stretching.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Insufficient training, mental crappiness and a bum knee.

Performance:
Don't have my official time yet. S'pose I can update later. Battery died in my watch this week so I have to wait 'till the results are posted online. **Updated - Unnoficial time as posted online 1:24:33 - wow, worse than I thought. :-(
Course: Course is beautiful. Pretty hilly in the first 3 miles. Lots of spirit boosting people lining the streets for miles 5-7. The bombers flying over the start, winding course along the ocean, 9000 or so runners, country's largest american flag....you really can't beat it.
