Hi - I'm not new to Triathlons, just getting back into them after a 3 year break. I raced from 1985 to 1999 in sprint to half Ironman distances around the US and the Carribean. Did some marathons and halfs as well in that time and since then, but have been justgetting back into the tri training routine the last 2 months. Am going to start training some newbys so that will help remotivate me. Look forward to a great year. THis looks like a great site for beginners as well as experienced tris.

Welcome to the site, I too am a returning triathlete, though I've had a 9 year absence. Good luck with all of your goals.

Welcome - your participation will be a real help. I'm a "newbie" to tri - and am some years from being a runner. So how about a quick question (if there are any such) For your trainees - are you going to suggest, Road Bike, Tri Bike, Mountain bike or hybrid?) I will be in the market in Spring.

Yes it was. There were events 12 monts a year. My favorite, by far, was the America's Paradise (also called the Beauty and the Beast) in St. Croix, Virgin Islands. Hurricane Hugo changed it from a half Ironman to an Olympic distance race and it was never the same after taht. The last year of the half every big name in the spor was there. It was awesome. THe Grand Trialo (the Puerto Rican National Championship Race) was always a great race too and the last time I looked it is still being run. If yo like beautifu scenery and some challenging swims then the Carribean is the place to race.

I personally use what would be a hybrid - Cannondale 3.0 frame with Shimano gears brakes and pedals and a tribar add on so I still have the standard roadbike configuration for strong climbing.. The Cannondale frame used most frequently with Mountainbikes is, nonetheless, a very light frame, nice and sturdy but flexible enough so it doesn't wear you out. One of my trainees is going that option. The other one is looking at a strict road bike because seh is from a biking backround. I usually recommend the frame that is most comfrortable to start with and in a modest price range. If you find you really enjoy triathlon racing then you can get to looking at the finer points of bike construction. In fact, a good option is to borrow a bike from someone. I started out with a borowed Schwinn that felt like it weighed 800 lbs. for my first 3 or 4 races - the kind you get your kids for christmas. Once I was sure I was committed I went bike shopping. The can put a dent in you wallet.

Thanks for the bike advice - I tend to jump in and get my wallet all out of shape. I may be able to borrow for right now. So far our sinter is great for running and biking - no snow. My daughter hatess it when I get all happy that our nature trail is snow free.
