Once you get to the point where you can do one on your own, then the next ones become a lot easier. Make sure to keep your grip about shoulder width-or a tad more...any wider (the wide-grip pullups) are a lot more difficult...but you probably already know that. Or just keep with the machine pulldowns and keep adding the weight...I like the spotter idea though...it's tougher, but the only way your going to feel your own weight.
