Comments: My running felt great, and I could maintain a fast pace really well. Unfortunately, I started way too far back in the crowd and couldn't actually keep a steady pace without getting cut off until just before the 7th kilometre marker. Once it had spread out enough, I was running 4.5 minute kilometres, so I think I could have achieved my 47 minute goal if I hadn't made this mistake in lining up. What would you do differently?: Line up way, way closer to the front of the pack. Hydrate in the last 15 minutes before the start, then just pass my bottle over the fence, instead of hydrating over the previous hour, then having to pee by the time the race started. Post race
Warm down: I did a bit of stretching right after the race, then walked home, then did some more stretching. What limited your ability to perform faster: Too many slower runners starting in front of me, especially the groups who were jogging 5 or 6 abreast, making passing extremely difficult. I ate breakfast about an hour and a half before the race start. The crowd was getting so large though, that I had to line up about half an hour before the race started, so I couldn't hydrate in the last 15 minutes before the race.
I ran for a few minutes, then did some dynamic stretching.
