Subject: Lake swims anyone?
I'm wondering. I want to start lake swimming. I need to rent a wet suit for my next tri and I'm looking for anyone willing to come swim in Lake Washington with me within the next couple of weeks. I don't really like going by myself in case I panic or something goes wrong. Plus great way to meet new people

PM me or reply here and we can work out some dates. Unless there's already a group out there?

I will probably start swimming with my tri team in either Lake Sammamish or Lake WA pretty soon. You are more than welcome to join us! We haven't worked out a time or place yet but I will get on them to make a decision. I could meet you sometime on the weekend or something if you want someone to swim with. Seward Park is my favorite place to OW swim.

Aww you're so nice! Thank you. Seward Park is where I was planning to swim. I just want to try out a wetsuit for the 1st time. I've swam in Lake Meridian in Kent before but that is much warmer than Lake Washington and I've never used a wetsuit before.

I was also looking just for a group of mind liked people that wasn't going to cost me anything - The Scottish in me is really coming out - So yes. Anytime. I'd love to!!

No problem. I try to organize a group for OW swims every year. Which tri are you doing next SGC or Federal Escape?

Lake Padden - June 30.

The water is still pretty cold right now. Just around 60F. I was thinking about testing out Lake Sammamish tonight. The next time I could meet at Seward is Friday evening or Saturday.

Are you thinking about eventually buying a wetsuit?

I probably won't buy a wetsuit, renting would be fine for me as I've only just started doing Tri's.

Let me know how the water is.

Woohoo! It is a great race. It has a really good vibe. Perhaps I will see you there?

BellinghamSpence lives really close to Padden as well. You should drop him a PM.

Shane I'm sure you'll do find. When I swam with some friends last year I noticed I cut minutes off my time because I kept trying to keep up with them. It's really motivational swimming with other people in OW. Well it was for me. I'm afraid of deep water and I panicked the 1st time I got in but after someone told me you couldn't see your hand in front of your face I felt much better. hehehe

Hey Lynne and Harmony,

I would be interested in going on an OW swim as well. Although I think it will have to wait until the water gets a little bit warmer for me to go as I don't have a wetsuit and I'm not particularly fond of them!

Today would be a good day for a swim. It's 80 outside.

That is true, it is beautiful outside. Although the question is if it would offset the bitingly cold water temp.

I was in Lk Padden yesterday. It was great with the wetsuit and I only have half (to the knees and to the elbows). Felt great after riding (as transportation).

Harmony, Bellingham Spence is my BT mentor. Pretty nice to have someone so close. Better update my training log before I forget.

I came across this yesterday after doing a search. I guess it won't be updated till after Memorial Day? It's pretty cool though.

I'm too afraid to swim in Green Lake!! I've heard too many stories about germs and people getting sick...I don't know if they are true but it makes me wary none the less.

Green Lake: I don't know about the germs and such but I did swim in it back when I was a teen. It was cold. Of course it was NewYears eve and it was on a skinnydipping dare, so I wouldn't advise that.... I often swam in it back then (in the summers) and temp-wise it was great. Seems like it would be a great end-to-end swim. that HAS been 28 years ago though.

Ive heard that too, but see people out there now and then. Ive actually been looking across the street at Alki. At low tide, you can touch bottom even if you are a couple hundred yards out. I saw people swimming on the warm days, but the water is probably between 45 and 50. I dont know if I could stay in it long enough, wetsuit and all, to get any real workout.

When I swam in the Loch's in Scotland they were TOTALLY freezing but we did it anyway. I think the Lakes here are just a lovely temp. I dipped my feet in yesterday and it wasn't so bad.
