Subject: road shoes or tri shoes?
have been riding my new bike with my old mtb sidis. will be buying new shoes soon. so, do i get road shoes or tri shoes? what is the point of the tri shoes? easier on and off? safer running out of the transition area? would tri shoes be okay for century rides? what, oh what should i get?

I use road shoes that have two wide straps, Sidi brand... sorry, can't remember the model. I went through the same decision you are and I based my purchase on the fact that most of my cycling is during training and not racing so having a road shoe wouldn't make that much difference. Perhaps I'm wrong but that was my reason. I've done one tri with my road shoes and didn't have any problem riding the final stretch with my feet on top of the shoes or with the dismount. Only thing I wish my shoes had are loops on the back so I could rubberband them to my frame prior to the start, suppose to make T1 quicker.

I think the tri shoes have nicer inner linings and could be worn without socks. That's not an option with my road shoes.

I use Sidi tri-shoes, two straps that open away from you so that they don't get caught in the chain if you unfasten them while still on the bike.  That said, I never do that, but just run back to the transistion area in my bike shoes.  But they are easier to put on and take off than my old road shoes, which were a pair of Carnacs that I could not put on without sitting down.  I've ridden with the Sidi shoes for 100 miles and they were plenty comfortable.  I always take the time to put on socks on the start of the bike leg anyway, since I'm not going to win my age group, and the extra 30 seconds is no big deal.

thanks for the feedback. the sidis i have now (mtb) are also two straps and worked well for the races this year, so i'm planning on getting sidis with two straps - just a matter of if i should get the t-1 or the dynamic road shoe.
