Pre-race routine:

I deviated from my normal pre-race meal by eating way too many slices of pizza. 6 to be exact. I didnt even feel full. what does that mean? ha ha
Event warmup:

I didn't really warm up for this. I wasn't intending on racing or anything. I had to keep running back to my car, so I kind of called that my warm-up
Run
  • 17m 4s
  • 2 miles
  • 08m 32s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt good. Probably went out too fast for someone who wasn't racing, but it wasn't my race pace. It was kind of in the middle of my usual racing pace and where I wanted to actually be yesterday. Oh well! It's hard NOT to race.
What would you do differently?:

hmmm...Eat less the night before and possibly earlier, eat in the morning (which I did not do), and fuel during the race a teeny bit.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

First transition ever and while I was pretty fast at getting from point a to point b, in a sense, I felt completely chaotic. I will definitely have to work on that.
What would you do differently?:

I don't know where to begin. I think I managed this transition horribly.

Comments:

Defintely enjoyed the bike ride.
What would you do differently?:

I wouldn't take it so easy on the bike next time. I kind of slacked because I was dreading the second run. I figured whether I go 17 mph or 20 mph it's gonna feel the same once I get off. he he
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Never even thought to practice running with the bike after you've ridden the bike. Thank goodness for learning experiences. Boy, I think I concentrated & focused more in the seconds it took me to get my bike from where I got off it to rack it than I did in any other portion of the race.
What would you do differently?:

I'm not sure...Probably everything. ha ha
Run
  • 27m
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 41s  min/mile
Comments:

There was one teeny incline on this run. During the first time out I noticed it, but my hamstring did not. Second time out it seriously agitated my hamstring, but I ran through it just kept it slower than the first run.
What would you do differently?:

nothing really except fuel better, drink better.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

hamstring issue!

Event comments:

I say this was a great race because I thought it was perfect for someone like me who has never done a duathlon. It was a small race, well organized, on time, etc.... I don't really have any complaints about this race. The people that were working it were awesome too.
