Subject: looking to lose a few pounds before Ironman in 3 weeks
I'm been training since december and eating prettry healthy not restricting too many calories and I lost a little weight , gain lots of muscles and feel real healthy. I would like to lose maybe 5-8 pds of weight without hurting my stanima or losing any of those "lean muscles" before my race at the IMLP. I think it would help me in my race and since I'm going to taper anyway in the next couple of weeks I figured that I could go on a somewhat restritive calorie diet without hurting anything. As anybody been able to do that ? What would be the best way to insure this ?

Just my $.02, but you are close enough to an IM race that you probably shouldn't be messing with ANYTHING, let alone restricting calories to lose 5-8 pounds. This has bad idea written all over it, imho.

Bad idea.  With the taper before the race your biggest worry will be to not GAIN weight due to reduced training hours and trying not to eat as much as you did when you were putting in more hours.  Also, with carbo loading you will actually gain weight in the days before the race because it usually is accompanied by water storage in your body - it is a GOOD thing.  The time to worry about an extra 8 lbs is MONTHS before the race...not 3 weeks.  Good luck.

Now is about the worst time you could possibly go on a restrictive calorie diet.

Eat right during your taper.  Do not try to lose weight 3 weeks out from an IM.
