Hey SC BTers!

I'm doing the Charleston Sprint Series #3 but live in Atlanta and don't know much about the course. Has anyone done it before? If yes, what are your thoughts about the race? (i.e. - course, organized, well-supported, post-race food, etc.)

Thanks!

Rebecca

We are usually a friendly bunch. I wish I could help you, but I'm from the Upstate. Good luck on your race!

I've done several of them. Nice lake swim, flat and fast bike course and the run is around the perimeter of the park. The race director has put on over 100 tri's so everything is top notch. I am a little biased as this is where I competed in my first triathlon last year. It will be fun! Look me up on race day and I will show you around.

Thanks, David. I will probably take you up on that. BTW- I dig the ice picture. I was born and raised in Anhorage and grew up on the ice and playing hockey. (Although I was probably in the penalty box more for high sticking...) =)

I did Series #1. The swim was in a small pond that was a bit swampy and you have to wonder what is in it, however; at least there aren't any alligators. Because it was so small, it was a bit crouded too, I had people all over me. The bike would have been excellent because it is totally flat, but there was construction and they couldn't get it finished in time so you had to get off your bike and walk across metal plates for 80 feet. Talk about a race killer. Maybe the person who just did Series 2 has new information regarding the construction. The run was awesome, totally flat and about 80% shaded which is something you need in Charleston in July and August.

As far as organization, it was okay. I like USAT events better; they have better sponsors.

Anyway, I may do #3 so I will see you there.

Not much changed between SCSupermom's comments except for the bike.

Race #2 did not have you dismount but it does have you slow down quite a bit and cross over a part of sand and packed dirt.  You could only pass through single file as race volunteers had it coned off and directing traffic.  They say it was b/c the sand was deep on either side and they didn't want anyone going into it or trying to avoid it on a different course and puncture a tire.  I would think they will have the construction completed by the next race.

The course is very flat and fast.  and the pond is a little murky but at least it smells ok.  very shallow in certain areas.  Didn't find it too crowded but then again I stayed away from the inside.

Didn't stay for too long after the race as it started raining by the time we finished.  Just your standard fruit, donuts, bagels, gatorade and water.  Couple of vendors as well but nothing major.

As a first time race, I really enjoyed it.

Thanks SCSupermom for your first race info. Hope to see you at race #3!

Thanks LowcountryTRI for the update on the construction. I'll keep my fingers crossed that the construction will be taken care of like you said... Congrats on your first race! Are you addicted now? =)
