Event warmup:

stretching and light jogging.
Swim
  • 11m 41s
  • 437 yards
  • 02m 40s / 100 yards
Comments:

As I just learned to swim I was one of the slowest swimmers, 2nd to last in my wave. Still, it was the fastest that I have ever swam 400 meters before. I was exhausted when I exited the pool and almost tripped on the short run to T1.
What would you do differently?:

Swim more and concentrate on breathing better.
Transition 1
  • 03m 19s
Comments:

I had an awful time getting into my cycling jersey. I ran out of the pool and over to T1. Quickly toweled off and tried to get my jersey on. It is a very tight fitting jersey and it got stuck halfway on over my head and would not slip the rest of the way on. Actually kind of funny if it was not so painful. Managed to get it off, then dry off and then get into jersey. Then I dried my feet and got into my shoes. Thenoff onto the bike.
What would you do differently?:

If it was another pool swim I would get a tri shirt that I could swim with and then I would not have to worry about getting into my jersey. Easily lost over 1:30 minutes on this facet.
Bike
  • 40m
  • 12.43 miles
  • 18.64 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt really good. My clipless pedals have not arrived yet so I had to ride in plain old platform pedals and running shoes.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe could have gone a hair harder, but not much. Would have liked my clipless pedals and some aero-bars.
Transition 2
  • 00m 30s
Comments:

Just had to park the bike and start running as I already was in my running shoes.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing if I was having to race in my platform pedals again.
Run
  • 24m 12s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 47s  min/mile
Comments:

Legs flet like rubber for the first mile and then it was like they "clicked" or seomthing and felt perfect. I was slow the first mile but then was able to go pretty good for me. This was the first time in my life that I had ever run after cycling.
What would you do differently?:

Practice coming up to pace and familiarize myself with the whole bike-to-run transition.
Post race
Warm down:

Wondered around and spoke with fellow racers.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Poor swimming for one. Put an amazing amount of eneregy into the swim. Also T1 was a disaster.

Event comments:

Great first race. Was not too worried about T1 as I knew I would have a lot to learn in this race. Also, I know I have a lot of work to do in the pool so that was not too discouraging. Had a great time and cannot believe how hard but awesome it is to do Triathlons! Can't wait until the next one!
