Total Time = 7h 30m
Overall Rank = 480/528
Age Group = 35-40
Age Group Rank = 60/65
Pre-race routine:

Woke up about 5:30. Had some yogurt and powerbar on the way to the race. Still can't kick the habit...still freaking smoking. I just can't give it up.
Event warmup:

jogged about .25 miles and got adjusted to the water.
Swim
  • 38m 53s
  • 1931 meters
  • 02m 01s / 100 meters
Comments:

I felt pretty good in the water despite not having swum for about 3 weeks. After about the first 200m or so i began to warm up. During the midpoint of the race I felt like i was probably not going to make it. This was my first time actually swimming this much. The last 1/ of it I felt pretty good.
What would you do differently?:

I woul practice a bit more before the race.
Transition 1
  • 03m 50s
Comments:

I had to slow down to concentrate on what I was doing. I always exit the water way disoriented. This time I had to put on my bike shorts over my swim trunks
What would you do differently?:

I would buy a tri suit
Bike
  • 3h 35m 1s
  • 59 miles
  • 16.46 mile/hr
Comments:

I felt pretty good during the ride. My goal was to finish in about 3:30 and wound up finishing at 3:35. I had been training consistently so I knew I was going to do pretty good. I felt bad because alot of people kept passing me up. But I just told myself to stick the my plan and it would all work out.
What would you do differently?:

I would train a little harder and lose a bit of weight.
Transition 2
  • 05m 57s
Comments:

I was extremely worn out when I got to T2. I took a break and asked myself if I was really going to finish. I took some time to think and decided....even if I had to walk I was going to finish.
What would you do differently?:

I would train a bit more
Run
  • 3h 26m 8s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 15m 44s  min/mile
Comments:

This is where it got really bad. After T2 I could not lift my legs very much. I decided to walk for a bit until I found my running legs. After about .25 miles I started jogging at about 10/mile pace for about 4 miles. I then decided to jogg down hill and walk up hill, I did this for about 4 miles. After that I was pretty much done...I fast walked the rest of the way.
What would you do differently?:

I would train more for the run!!!
Post race
Warm down:

Not much...walked to transition....got my bike....got in my truck...lit up a cigatette and drove home. I felt damn good though!!!!!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I should have practiced more on the run. I had just gotten of a plane less than 24 hours later. I should not have had sex the night before.

Event comments:

I will be there next year. I plan to finish in about 6:30 or so.

Great job! That run was just brutal! No shade and very hot for October. I dowsed myself with water and ice every chance I had. The heat during the run took a toll on everyone.
