  • Comments: It was the first one so I think it should be assumed there would be some kinks. The hotter than normal weather probably threw the water estimations out the window. I don't drink Powerade so I didn't have the water station trouble that many people speak of.

  • Comments: I was disappointed in the fact that there was minimal Powerade on the course over the last 10 miles or so. There was plenty of water, but no powerade or food. As many big runs as ING puts on, I thought that this would not have been a problem. Otherwise, the race was great. Fantastic expo, good location, tough but reasonable course, lots of volunteers. I can cross Georgia off the list now. If you ever visit Atlanta, be sure and go to the Aquarium. I don't know who liked it more, me or my 5 year old.

  • Comments: When I compare this race to Chicago and New York, it's below average. I was worried about the water stops and they did a fucking horrible job. They even mentioned the Powerade stops at the start line. Where were they? The course was great with amazing neighborhoods, good specators, and the Expo was kinda small but so was the overall number. I think this will be a good race after they work out the kinks. I will conquer this course again next year.

  • Comments: This was a challenging course - I think I prefer it that way rather than watered down to give it a 'fast' reputation. Tough to get a PR here if you've run flat courses before but crowd support was awesome and the course showed off intown Atlanta really well. Minor issues at the water stations but I really think that in the aggregate, the race organizers should be proud. All in all - Highly Recommended!

  • Comments: I'm only going to give this an Average for now. I was worried about the water stops going into the race, and rightfully so. They did a horrid job on those. Record heat, or record cold, they were not well prepared in this area. The rest of the race was outstanding. Great course with amazing neighborhoods, excellent organization, and decent expo. I am sure each of these kinks will be dealt with next year. The bottom line, is that Atlanta finally has an awesome Marathon.

  • Comments: The hydration/powerade fiasco was pretty inexcusable. Atlanta puts on the 55000 person Peachtree 10K in July, so there are plenty of people who know how to deliver hydration to a swarm of runners without running out or causing the kinds of cooler swarms we saw. Also, they really needed to do a better job with traffic awareness BEFORE race day. Drivers were truly furious to find closed roads, and cops were getting abused by both drivers and runners while trying to keep the peace. The neighborhood support was really excellent for an Atlanta race, and it was regular folks in the end that saved the day with salty snacks, hoses, water, ice and sponges, and a radio or two. I agree with the others who said that this was poor/average, but with potential to be a fun and challenging marathon.

  • Comments: I thought ING did a good job with the race, with the exception of the aid stations and the availability of only water at the finishline. The announcer was warning people of the heat and even said if you are out on the course after 4 hours, to switch to only Powerade but I didn't see Powerade at any water stop past mile 6 or so. I had planned on alternating between water and Powerade throughout the entire race, but I only was able to get Powerade at two aid stations early in the race. I also noticed at least twice on the course that there were signs indicating a water stop was ahead and then there was no water stop. I was assuming that was because of a lack of volunteers. The lack of Powerade at the available water stops was more of an issue for me, than the missing stops. I noticed some soda in the finish line area but never saw any Powerade there. I'm not much of a post run soda drinker so I would have done anything for a Powerade. I saw a runner down on the out and back portion of

  • Comments: Good race. The people in Decatur turned out and I felt so much energy coming from them through this part of the route. They really were so encouraging. I also thought the people in Druid Hills were great. I liked this race and I really enjoyed the crowds. I wish the temp hadn't been so high, it really affected me and it made it tough for me to finish this race. I kept feeling like I was going to pass out the last 6 miles.

  • Comments: Great course through lots of different areas of town. Only 1 real "out and back". No loops - every mile (except 18 and 19) was unique. Would get a 5 rating if the aid stations had been better organized.

  • Comments: Great inaugural race even though there are a couple things the race organization needs to iron out: - Mile markers? - Cones for road hazards (those white round traffic control things? Saw a lad take a header after tripping on one ... course was so crowded she couldn't see it) - Water stations (Race Director, please see how the Peachtree Road Race handles water stops efficiently and effectively for 5x the amount of runners) - Course nutrition - one gel station for the entire course? - Post race activities = not so much ... the city had the opportunity to get tens of thousands of people downtown, they should have taken advantage of the opportunity to show case that Underground Atlanta and Woodruff Park are places people should come down to from the suburbs and after sporting events (Braves games, Georgia Dome and so forth).

  • Comments: No Poweraid at water stations. Too few people at the water stations. The aid stations were not put together well. Beautiful course. Mostly residental neighborhoods. Lots of spectators-cheering and bells which is a plus. Last 3 miles uphill after Piedmont Park were exhausting. Overall nice race save the water station problems.

  • Comments: On the marathon course, there were water/powerade stops that were labeled, but there weren't even any tables there! This was in the first half of the race when I was still doing 10:30 miles. Lotsa people were up the creek. Fortunately I had my fuel belt with four flasks of water. Wish I had gone 2/2 with water/powerade. Powerade was missing from most aid stations. I didn't get any until piedmont park (whatever mile that was - it was near the end!). A heard one volunteer snip "you're just lucky we're out here". Yeah, whoever was making a big deal of them being out of powerade was probably wrong, but there wasn't anything the vols could've done for him at that point.

  • Comments: If this race wants to play 'big time' it needs to step up with the race course support. I'm not talking about paying off neighborhoods to clap for us. In Coke's hometown, you would think that Powerade would be relatively easy to get. It was easier finding a whole Publix than their sponsored water stations. I would seriously question recommending this one. This is the second time in three months I've been skunked w/ the fluid support. You just can't trust these races lately.
