  • Comments: I have a couple of problems with the RD- there were supposed to be 2 aid stations on the bike and there was only one. Some of the aid stations on the end of the run were not manned. The food at the finish may have been good - but I'll never know because by the time I got there it was all eaten by the sprint and olympic racers. Also please wait until all the athletes have crossed the line before dismantling the finish. I was 9th over all and they were already taking everything down. I can't imagine how demoralizing it would seem to be struggling all day only to finish in an empty parking lot.

  • Comments: This was my first half IM distance, so I am happy overall. Would have liked a better time, but with the heat and inexperience I am not complaining. Thought I lost my cyclometer as it was not on my bike after the race, but the race organizers had found it and sent it back to me right after the race (thanks!!). Love Las Vegas and will be back to compete next year (with better results hopefully).

  • Comments: Mountain Man events......what can I say. It's the 3rd year in a row we're doing this one. It has gotten much better. The aids stations were a huge improvement. Much more volunteers and actually water and ICE!! Even some Hammer Gels! Compared to last year 100% improvement. This year the timing mat and finishing area was still out when I finished. Previous years they broke everything down way ahead of time. It's a hard race (course and heat), don't expect too much from the organizers. The expo this year was pathetic - I asked them what happened and they said that they just didn't show up. BUT - if you really want a hard race and are training for something like Ironman St George, I can recommend doing this.

  • Comments: Not bad for my first HIM. I now have a benchmark. Looking forwards to a flat, cool HIM to see how much faster I can go.

  • Comments: Army ROTC volunteered at the drink stations and did an EXCELLENT job!! Thank you!! I didn't see any post race activities, but I didn't hang out to long. Drink stations were well stocked with water and gatorade, as I train with Cytomax I only took water and carried my Cytomax with me. The wed description "Las Vegas's flatest bike course" should come with a topo map for those of us unfamiliar with Lake Mead, the hills were a shocker (now I'm whining). I wish for the entry fees ($200.00 for the Half) we could have at least got a tech t or one with logo's on the back and front. Seemed like there wasn't much sponsorship, my only reference is the LV RnR Marathon and several other running events where sponsorship is huge.

  • Comments: Leaving the race site I had a 4hr drive in front of me so I stopped off at the race site hotel. I decided to sneak in and use there pool and shower considering I was there the night before and used nothing. I ended up sitting in the pool for about 20 minutes and then as I started to get cold I took a shower and then went to the bathroom to change. Once I got to the bathroom (near the casino floor) I was changing into my clothes when my entire body seemed to cramp up. I went from being cold to now sweating again and I had a massive headache. I told myself I was starving and was getting ready to get some food finally. Went I bent over to tie my shoes I fell onto the floor of the bathroom. I wasn't sure if I blacked out or not but I couldn't get up just yet so I stayed on the floor. Eventually a guest came in and saw me and soon a hotel employee arrived. They thought I was drunk and were talking to me like I was drunk. Apparently my nose was bleeding. They did help me up to a bench

  • Comments: The main problems with the race were those 3 sections on the run where you go 2.5 miles with no water (remember temps reached 105 F), only 3 stations had gator aid (and they ran out early, they advertised water stations every mile, gator aid every 1.4 miles), no anouncement of finishers after well they stopped before I got there anyway. It is always cool to hear your name as you finish. The post race just sucked. oranges, oreos and pretzels and limited water didn't cut it. It would have been nice to see a printout of results or to have an opportunity to get your place medal. They were basically closing up shop before folks were done. I was 33 of 85 and they were taking away the bike stands and laying people's bikes down on the ground when I was clearing out my transition stuff. So basically, the race was very pretty, very HOT and they need to not put folks health in danger by not providing enough aid stations and the post race everything sucked.

  • Comments: Very well organized event, at least from my limited triathlon experience. Packet pickup was the day before the race and included a briefing on the course route and information for new particpants which was informative. Race Day: Pre race marking and set up was organized and no problems experienced. Swim waves started exactly on time. Swim course well layed out as a U shape so no problems with swimmers coming back the other direction. Bike course pretty much an out and back which spread out the bicycle traffic so no problems with passing or getting passed. Run course was uphill for the entire first half, then turnaround and back down for the second half. Looking forward to particpating again next year in this event! Congratulations to all the other racers, and thanks to all the volunteers who helped make the event a success!

  • Comments: I realized in a sprint that seconds mean MUCH more. I ended up 42nd out of 272 and 9th in my AG out of 30. But looking at the times, 4 of my AG'ers were within about 1 min of my time. If I could have just pushed harder on the run, I could have been 4 out of 30 in my AG. I would have also move up about 10 spots overall. I am glad with my results, but disapointed that I could have done better if I would have pushed just a little harder. However, I'm happy that a 6'8" 230# guy can get around with the best of them! I wish they had a Clydesdale division! I think I could have done well since I was competitive in my AG.
