  • Comments: Just like last year, I'm amazed that the swim starts actually start at precisely the times they are scheduled for. My started at 8:08 exactly (wave 29). The volunteers were awesome!!! They knew we were suffering and helped any way they could. I loved the ice water towels at the end.

  • Comments: Logitics of such a big race made it very daunting. Had to park some way away from the start (and transition) which left me without cell phone and wallet for too long, my fault, but this meant the mini bagel and 12oz coffee was all I ate before the race and didn't have cash to buy something. Maybe I could have left my wallet in my pants at the swim bag drop, but I didn't feel like it was a good idea, no issue with the volunteers, just my own personal concern that cost me time in the long run.

  • Comments: The only negative I noticed was that some of the water stations had warm drinks - some ice would have helped alot.

  • Comments: After investing 8 months in training I would have liked better race weather conditions. If you don't enjoy heat and humidity, skip the Chicago Marathon and Triathlon. Still, all in all a good experience for my first time. I'll do more races, but this one, never again.

  • Comments: Its an ok race. I liked NYC better and for the cost of the event and # of people, I think the goodie bag, and post race activities were lacking

  • Comments: I like the venue, but as usual, the crappy way to rack the bikes so early in the morning and then the wait is something that turns me off to this race. There are so many smaller events that have the setup better. I do like the chicago crowd and it being my town, I like it.

  • Comments: I did this race in 1985 in 3:14 and my goal was to beat that time since I turned 50 this year. Just wanted to prove older, slower, smarter and better prepared can beat young, fast, stupid and un-prepared almost every time. I know LSD was rough and crowded, but it is really cool to ride out there. Usually the tallest structures I see when riding are 80 foot tall grain silos.

  • Comments: I just dont think I can hydrate right on days like that. This race was like Bangs lake last year when it was sunny and 90s and felt a lot like Racine. I also think I need to do more stretching or something, I was already feeling tight going into the race and never really got loose before the pain started on the run. Oh well. It is in the books.

  • Comments: They ran out of cups toward the end of the run, but the volunteers improvised and asked if we wanted water from the jugs dumped on us or if we wanted a pull. I was so hot I opted for a shower. I applaud the volunteers for improvising. Lots of spectators to keep you going. All volunteers were awesome.

  • Comments: This one was actually fun. Knowing it's the last time I'll do it for a long time really made me sit back and appreciate my adoptive city. Coming south along Lake Shore and seeing the skyline really energized me. And the beauty of the lake and even ugly ol' Soldier Field -- I'm going to miss all of it a lot. Chicago's been good to me and I'm glad I did this race one last time. I was singing this song for at least part of the race, not as well as Clapton or Guy, but I was still singing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7dNeI74DlA

  • Comments: A *really* well-organized race: the swim waves went off on time like clockwork, and as I mentioned above, there was lots of water and hydration stuff out on the run. Very efficient, lots of volunteers, and everyone really pleasant despite the rough conditions. This race is HUGE, so it's a bit of a different experience from my other races so far-- but all the more impressive for being so well-run as a result.

  • Comments: Race was good overall. I think distance to T1 is annoying (450m) and dislike that this is included in T1. Biking course was better than I expected. Run absolutely sucked since there was no shade and the stations were too far apart and out of cups and/or water/ gatorade. Mile markers were at 2 and 4 (no 6 or last couple meters?). Overall, SO glad I did this. It was an amazing experience and I couldn't be happier. A few things I learned: 1 - I have the best support system ever - my Mom flew in from Texas, my two roommates and another best friend rooted for me by making signs, having the announcer call out my name, and hanging around for three hours in the 90* weather. 2 - Water AND electrolyte drink on the bike. 3 - I still HATE running.
