  • Comments: I cannot say enough about this race. The volunteers are the best and make this race a great venue. I hope to get back to CDA again for another go at it and hopefully a PR. Beautiful scenery too. Be prepared for a COLD swim and possibly choppy water too. Bike course probably changing for 2012.

  • Comments: The day went suprisingly smooth for me. I never felt overwhelmed, over-tired, that I wouldn't finish, never had any stomach issues, and really had a great time. It's true, the training is the hardest part, and race day is a piece of cake. Well, maybe not that easy, but it didn't hurt nearly as much as I expected. I may be revising my "First and Last Ironman" statement. For now, I'm going to enjoy catching up on my eating and sleeping! Thanks to all my supporters - Kevin, Robin, Brenda, Rachel, Cadence, Hunter, Andrew, Sonja, Jamie, Tori and Jaden! It meant so much to have all my loved ones there to witness this! Our team had lots of other supporters out there as well, including my coach, Kristen Codish of Triple Threat Tough. Now, to figure out what's next on the bucket list...

  • Comments: I was super impressed from start to finish. This town really shows up to support the racers, the volunteers were amazing, and the big time feel that WTC brings to a race was something I had never experienced. Love them or hate them, they do put on a first-rate event.

  • Comments: I love IM CdA. Love the town. Love the volunteers. Love the vibe. Love the course (unfortunately, looks like they've ruined the best part of it for next year - the bike course). I had a sub-12 goal for this race. I missed it by 15 mins, but I still cut 5 mins off of last year's time, even with a ridiculously slow swim and T1, so no complaints, especially considering my lack of winter swim training. As with most things, you get out what you put in, and there's no escaping that. Glad that I think I've figured out what keeps killing my IM runs (shoes a little too tight once the swelling kicks in), so I'm looking forward to hopefully being able to race to my potential at IMAZ in November with a strong finish on the run. I plan to spend the summer putting in some serious volume on my swim to get it back to where it needs to be, and staying consistent with my bike/run training. Given that I pulled off a sub 12 at IMAZ last year, racing in crappy weather, with a full blown sinus infection,

  • Comments: I am reasonably happy. I wanted to finish below 11 hours but i lost 5 minutes in the water (I don't think i can do anything about that) and another 7 minutes due to my incompetence on the bike (which is something i must seriously address) which explains the difference. Also, pretty much did zero outside training leading to the race and all my training was on a treadmill and turbo-trainer. I improved my PR from IMWI by 36 minutes so I guess that is good. Next time, i will go below 10:30 :O)

  • Comments: IM CdA is known for the incredible community support and volunteers. They didn't disappoint and lived up to their stellar reputation. So many great people cheering you on, encouraging you. I'm very grateful to have had this experience. It was a once in a lifetime experience. Even if I do another, there will never be another first Ironman. Thanks to the CdA vols and community it was a fantastic experience. Ironman organization is tops and even though full of hype, marketing and branding. I'm happy to say I am an Ironman!

  • Comments: I was pretty happy overall. The Ironman website IMO is pretty weak, the race needs to pay spend a little more time focusing on specators and where to view atheltes. The merchandise tent needed more cash registers. I can't complain to much. Pretty happy.

  • Comments: Good race. Volunteers were great. Needed to train more. Only 6hrs a week is not enough with nothing long. If I train properly, I think I can go sub 11 on this course. Will have to come back and try that in a few years.

  • Comments: CdA is a CHALLENGING course--the swim may be pretty chilly, so if the cold gets to you--beware! The bike is hilly, don't let anyone tell you otehrwise, and know that the hills actually GROW between loops. It's true, I swear. The new run course with Bennett Bay Hill in totality (over and down x2 each loop) is no joke. It's tough. The volunteers are FABULOUS! The town is out in force cheering. The scenery is amazing (though, likely, while on the run you'll be very tempted to join the kids playing in the lake!) and breathtaking. The cheer supporters, especially on the run and in town, are amazing and awesome and fun! Running down Sherman is sure to make anyone feel like a hero, like someone special, and you actually float down the street like you had wings--no, joke! Great race. Not sure I'll be back cause there are other races to do and I gotta figure out this climbing/back thing, but if I do figure that out--it's one worth repeating. Simply amazing town, scenery, area!

  • Comments: Best race ever!!! Such wonderful volunteers and a beautiful, if tough, course. I couldn’t have done this without the awesome support system I had on BT. Great group. And my honey Luke made this all possible. He was on the course all day, taking pictures, cheering and offering support. Tri-sherpa extraordinaire. In the best news ever, Luke caught the IM bug and we’re planning a 2013 return to IM CDA.

  • Comments: If it were not for the volunteers, my day would have been much harder. Those guys really made a difference, at least for me. I thanked as many of them as possible on and off the course because without them I'd be probably still stuck in my wetsuite :)

  • Comments: This was a fantastic race! CdA is just stunning and the crowd/town support was incredible. This was my first WTC race and I think it was money well spent. I don't know that I'll be back to do this one as logistically its tough, but as my first I couldn't ask for a better memory.

  • Comments: First Ironman. I will do another but not sure what one. It was one long day but it flew by. My pacing got me to the finish and I never really 'pushed hard'. If I was truly worried about my time I would have made mistakes im sure and that wasnt the plan. I certainly wouldnt say it was easy but the effort was so controlled that really the run is where I felt it the most. And that makes sense since Id been out there for 12+ hours. That last 4.2miles of running was the best. I would rather finish strong and have a 14+hr time than barely make the line and cramp/and or collapse and do a 13+hr time. Its all in what is important. I heard an experienced age grouper say he was disapponted with a 10:15 time, that he was shooting for a 9:45. I guess its all relative and depends on whats really important to you. I would hope he was at least happy with his FIRST Ironman... I know I am!

  • Comments: Seriously, Coeur d'Alene is breathtaking. I have never been to a race more pristine than this one. Is it challenging? Absolutely, but you will never have a more perfect race experience. Amazing swim, beautiful skylines and mountains on the bike and a super supportive town cheering you on the run. You just cant beat the experience.

  • Comments: Great venue. Great volunteers. And it's really close to my home. Love the bike course and the new run course. I hope they don't allow quite as many people to sign up next year. 2000 is plenty to start so mabey a 2300 cap instead of 2800. Glad not everyone showed up. Love the women's fitted tech shirt.

  • Comments: This was my 3rd time doing IMCDA, it is just so beautiful here and so well run that I am leary of doing other IM's... I will its just tough to get away from CDA!! Lots of goals: 1H 20M on the swim - check 2M/100 on the swim - check 7H or better on the bike - check 5H or better on the run - check 12H 59M 59S for the day - Missed.... however as my wife pointed out, take out my slow transition times and I did the distances in less than my goal.... :) Overall, this was a fantastic day for me!!! Ironman is a long event and you have to expect setbacks and find ways to overcome them, the only thing you can control is your attitude. I tried to keep smiling the whole day and just appreciate the opportunity given to me to race. Thank you God for smiling upon me!
