  • Comments: Also wanted to give a special shoutout to Xan. I unfortunately didn't meet him at the race, but it was one of his inspires that got me to the finish line, and through the race: Being out there. Testing your mettle. Pushing boundaries and getting acquainted with your demons. Thats what it's all about. It will all be there waiting for you on race day. Whether it hurts or not, the experience you've prepared yourself for will be waiting. Throw yourself into it. Whatever happpens, happens. -- Xan I say it was, but it wasnt' the hardest thing I've ever done. just the last hour and a half was the hardest thing i've ever done. I was afraid that after this tri I'd have a huge letdown. it often happens after tris, during the post mortem. I've wondered why people are faster than me, but really, I have such a sense of accomplishment that I've never really felt before, even after my first triathlon. I wasn't the fastest or the slowest, somewhere there in the BOP. But I finished it. I

  • Comments: This race was very well run, and will be back next year in 2008 to race it again! :) Home to see you all there next year. '08 Just need to stay more focused, and perform more hill training out into Lake Meade. The bike course is very challenging when you hit those 3 hills, and need to get focused for them. Also, the scenery is just as nice in the hills as the oceans. I kept wanting to stop, find a surf board and head out once we got to Loweer and upper. That surf looked like it was picking up, and should of been there. If you did not know, I grew up in Dana Point / Laguan Niguel when I was a kid. So surfing Salt Creek was a daily thing as kids. Other wise, great race, and had fun. Event though my body collapse for this race. It was nice to have wife and parents there. My parents live about 1 1/2 miles form the race site and my wife was cheering me everytime she saw me. Just having her voice and the other BT'ers that I ran into the race course, realy kept me going. Really glad that I'm

  • Comments: Another great M-Dot race. Lots of awesome volunteers, great location, well run. I'm not happy I had to walk on the run but I did what I could with what was handed to me. I should have done better but this turned out to be a HIM PB by almost 11 minutes. First time I broke 6 hours. I just need to get my run training back and my goals for IM CDA are truly within reach.

  • Comments: Great race. I met my goals. First HIM. Bike + swim in under 3.5 hours and overall in under 6 hours. In a lot of pain the day after on feet/knees as I couldn't run more than a couple miles elading upto the event without ITB rearing its ugly head.

  • Comments: Well, literally 9 months ago I had no idea what triathAlons were (that is how I thought it was spelled.) A half-ironman seemed out of this world. In some ways, I feel like I was at the top of the world and rock bottom. I have thought about this race for literally 6 months. Every single workout was focused on Oceanside. I was almost thinking of not writing a race report because I didn't want to share my results, or lack thereof. More mental gymnastics that I love to play. There will never be another first half-ironman and what an incredible experience. I feel privileged to have been able to part of such an outstanding event. The glory, the pain, the agony, and the joy all wrapped up into one little ball. Love it!

  • Comments: I was overwhelmed by the moment of accomplishment as I crossed the finish line. 21 weeks of kicking my ass and it was soo worth every second I spent swimming, biking and running to prepare for this. Given my own personal circumstances during this race I was especially proud of myself for not giving up or getting pissed when things went south for me. I hung in there, and although my finishing time was about an hour from my goal (which I was sooooo close to accomplishing!!!) I did finish. Lessons learned 1. Check equipment much closer. I'm not sure if whatever went wrong on my bike was preventable but i'm not a professional. I should've had my bike tuned at the shop. I can maintain it but it should be checked over once in a while by a pro 2. NEVER give up. I hung in there and finished, and it would've been so much simpler to say F it 3. I need to focus on running more. Given my circumstances, again, I didn't do bad and actually finished faster then it felt, but the run was tougher than

  • Comments: I had a great time for my first 1/2 IM. My goal time was to go under 5:30 and I just barely made it. I know I can go faster I just have to train a bit more. I do have to say that after one race I'm hooked

  • Comments: 03/18/2006 California Half Ironman Race Report For those that live under a rock, this past weekend was the annual California Half Ironman. Leading up to the event, the biggest thing on most folk’s minds was the weather. We had rain all week with moments of sunshine and there was a huge storm the night before just to remind us that we were in for some fun. :: 2005 Results :: Swim: 32:09 Swim Pace: 1:37/100 Bike: 3:09:53 Bike Pace: 17.7/mile Run: 2:25:36 Run Pace: 11:07/mile Overall: 6:17:50 :: 2006 Results :: Swim: 42:00 Swim Pace: 2:12/100 Bike: 3:16:54 Bike Pace: 17.06/mile Run: 2:26:16 Run Pace: 11:09/mile Overall: 6:35:17 :: The Good :: I found a great taco joint in Oceanside called “Diego’s”, so if you ever get a chance to eat there, they don’t skimp on the portions. They could use some salsa making lessons, but otherwise a good taco joint. There is a cool store out in Carlsbad called AquaSphere. The chick there told me I should really think about getting

  • Comments: Awsome race. Extremely well done. Hundreds of Marines from nearby Camp Pendelton were everywhere helping out. Great medal and t-shirt too. Hard to believe there could be a better organized event than this.

  • Comments: The marines were very helpful and some were fun. "Come on maggot this is what you trained for!" "1088 - you get yourself up this hill!!" It was the first time I rode through street with "Tank Crossing" written in the road. Unfortunately I let myself get psyched out about the weather conditions beforehand. It wasn't as bad as I imagined. I know what I need to work on during the next 97 days leading up to Ironman. So the race served its purpose. I trained for 3 months compared to 6 months prior to this half and I did about 7 minutes faster so I'm going in the right direction. The good thing about the race is I am very psyched about triathlons again and will go back to training with a renewed vigor. Will I do this race again?????????????

  • Comments: This was my first 1/2, and my goal was to finish the race. I did, and I did faster than I thought I would, so it was a success. I know there was a lot of talk about the weather being horrible. But, as far as I could tell, it rained during some of the waves swim, and then maybe sprinkled early on in the bike. The temp was mid 50's, which is my most favorite temp to run in. Overall, I enjoyed the weather though it took a couple extra pieces of gear (neoprene cap and arm warmers). I'm panning on doing Vineman, and the weather for the run there (in the 80's & 90's) scares me more than this.

  • Comments: I really had fun. It was my first 1/2 ironman. I went in with the goal just to finish and that's what I did. I raced it well, and not pushed it too hard. I knew I was undertrained and I had in my mind, if I was too much in pain or discomfort, I would DNF and would be fine with it.
