  • Comments: This was a very well executed race and a good race to do as a first-timer or as a highly competitive event. The venue is fantastic - and we couldn't have asked for better conditions overall - with some challenges on the swim and bike courses...

  • Comments: NOTE: Over all results includes Mens division only. Based on the sprint I did the week prior I took many things away from that, all of those slight changes worked well. This was the fist tri I was able to race with my training partner Steve(we are in the same AG). I was ahead of him coming out of the water and off the bike but he is a phenomenal runner and it was only a matter of time until he caught me. The water was a bit of shock as Steve normally has my number in the pool during the longer distance swims, the bike we are a close match. Once the cramp hit, I knew the podium was out of reach, now all that mattered was finishing as strong as I could. I am proud I never stopped running and kept my average pace under 8 min/miles as well as getting 4th place in the AG. This was a good learning experience and something to build on.

  • Comments: Nice setting at Buckroe Beach in Hampton. Transitions area was good. Little bit of a run to transition after the swim, but that was because of the start location taking advantage of the tide/wind. A few rough spots on the bike, but all in all a good course and race. I'll come back.

  • Comments: The bike was as advertised fast and flat. I'm sure the run was as well. The swim was suppose to be an EASY swim. The boats picked up over 40 people. The faster time for a 1000 yard was over 20 minutes. This was not an easy swim. I saw a girl crying because of the swim. She was pushed off course by at least 1000 yards. Yeah that's how strong the current was. Through it all I kept a positive attitude and even laughed when I flipped. But to have a volunteer call me fat, that ended my day. 166 at 5'10", I have a gut but by no means would anyone call me fat.

  • Comments: Setup events does a good job, but unfortunately Mother Nature made things tough on 'em. Thought they did a good job of pulling it all together on race morning considering they had to start from scratch...

  • Comments: Swim issues were the big negative for this race. Course markers were constantly moving. We should have swam the course in reverse - ie with the current. Happy with my bike and transition times. I ran out of juice on the run, but that is a testament to my overall fitness level. Despite taking 25 minutes longer to complete than I anticiped for my "perfect day", 24 minutes of that came from the swim. Given that everyone had issues with the swim course, I'm pleased. My primary goal for this race was to over-come my DFL age group finish last year. I did that, and as such, am pleased with my result.

  • Comments: Race started about 15 minutes late due to all the swim buoys getting blown away during the storm the night before. Also, they were still adjusting the swim course when the first wave went off. It was tough enough to sight without the markers themselves moving on you.

  • Comments: If I have the same watch for the next race, make sure I turn off the heart rate monitor. It messed me up by constantly scanning for heart rate. Wasn't able to use the clock.

  • Comments: Best Triathlon that I have had to date. The chop and current gave swimmers a real advantage.

  • Comments: I raced Setup for my first Oly last fall and it was an amazing experience. I only finished 10 minutes faster! But because it was such a brutally hot day and I finished so late, there was NO nutrition left, and there was no Heed on the course - I was kind of counting on that (I KNOW HUGE MISTAKE) but I had it on Patriot's!!! Setup races are convenient but starting to be less and less appealing to me, not sure. CRAZY competetive field. Not used to this with the RMS races, that's for sure!
