  • Comments: I really enjoyed this race. I felt I gave a really, really good effort and that I couldn't have done much differently. A first for me! I actually felt great after the race...even before I found out my results. Very nice venue. Very challenging bike course. I will consider this race again.

  • Comments: The organization was well done. There was a 15 minute delay at the start to let some more lake haze burn off -- good decision. There were bike support/referees on the bike course and sheriffs out helping with intersections. All in all, good all around with a friendly low-key atmosphere. Pretty lake too.

  • Comments: Setup generally puts on a good race. I plan to do more of theirs in the coming years. I enjoyed the challenge of the course, which provided a pleasant change to some of the other races. I also enjoy racing different courses. I would recommend this race to others.

  • Comments: I like this race. Especially the lake swim. It is tough and it challenges me so I want to get better at it each year. Next year the goal is to break 3 Hrs. Maybe another 30 min PR.

  • Comments: I will do this race again next year. The rest of the story? I found out later in the day that I actually had bronchitis. A full on lung infection...well....makes me a little less critical of my performance. I still was made very aware of some deficiencies in my training and a few spots of mental weakness. I rated Mental effort at a 5, not meaning I managed it great, but that it took all the effort I could muster to keep it going. Physical effort at 5 means I had nothing left. Given the bronchitis, it's no wonder.

  • Comments: Another excellent race by Setup Events. I loved the one girl screaming and cheering everyone on at the top of the first hill on the run course -- her enthusiasm was great. Always love this Culpeper race since I first started tris 4 years ago. I'll definitely be back next year.

  • Comments: Setup did a great job as far as I am concerned and the volunteers were awesome! I will be back next year for sure! I loved the challenge and it was awesome to finish my first Olympic distance.

  • Comments: Again, this is a challenging course. Ran into several folks from the flatter parts of Virginia who said the bike course was a challenge. Also attracts a strong field as many come down from Northern VA. This was probably the best organized race I've been to in the VTS series. Lots of REALLY GREAT volunteers, no lines, plenty of post race food, and the award ceremony was very timely (and the results were posted before I even got home!) Great job y'all! Much appreciated.

  • Comments: I loved this inaugural Int'l Distance race. More time to enjoy this beautiful venue. The volunteers were fantastic, and the ice-baths at the finish were a God-send.

  • Comments: So last night when I was looking at the forecast for today's race I just kept thinking to myself that the heat would be "the challenge of the day". Challenging it was. The swim went well. The bike also went pretty well (18.5mph avg on a very hilly course). Then I got the run. It was 90 degrees with about 90% humidity by 10am when we were on the run course. That course was fairly hilly, more so than I expected. I couldn't run all that fast simply because it was too darned hot. But, the worst part was that in my heat-induced delerium I TOTALLY missed the half-way turnaround and ran an extra .5 miles. Ugh - that was pretty demoralizing. The second half of the run I just tried to just keep a steady but slow pace and tried to keep within what I could do in this heat. My official time shows I came in at 2:49 - but I stopped my Garmin at 6.2 just to give me an idea of where I should have been. After finishing I had to lie down for about 10 minutes. My buddy Dave looked me and said "Dude, you don't
