  • Comments: Mountain Man has a reputation of being a very well run event for a reason. It is well organized, on time, with adequate aid stations and nice amenities. The course is scenic and challenging. The event is up for sale, so I hope that whoever takes over will continue the tradition.

  • Comments: This was my second triathlon, and it was great. I heard a lot of people say it was tough, and at 7000' elevation it might be for some. For me it was perfect. Nice cool race, great support. I loved it. Nothing better than all of the racers and fans bringing a positive attitude that helped my daughter say "Daddy I want to be a triathlete!" Awesome.

  • Comments: Heard several folks complain about lack of volunteers on race course. I could see how certain people were over shooting the turnarounds or turn in to transition. Also, the roads weren't closed which made it dicey at times. You had to go into the road when passing on the bike which was dangerous. Cars were also getting upset with us and were honking. Hey j-offs, there's a triathlon going on, of course we're going to be on the road.

  • Comments: Very nice race. Pretty and challenging course. Laid-back and not too large. There were a lot of firsts for me with this race (Olympic distance, altitude, wetsuit, open water, substantial hills), so I didn't want to put a lot of pressure on myself. I think there is a lot of room for improvement, but I am mostly happy with how I did.

  • Comments: This was my worst race ever. I went in to it as a training race, but the swim and bike problems made it frustrating and less ideal training.

  • Comments: This race is slated as, "The Toughest Race You'll Ever Love." and I'll concur. Very challenging, but very fun...beautiful atmosphere and a perfect excuse to get out of the heat every summer for a good race. I will be back...

  • Overall course based on my ability: Too hard

  • Comments: There is a flat and beautiful road to run on to cap a great race. Instead tradition has demanded that the weary triathletes suffer up a 1.5 mile 400 foot elevation gaining hill, changing the race from spectacular to miserable for many, even the very fit.

  • Comments: Great first triathlon that I really trained for! Signed up in May for this distance which was totally beyond my ability, and following the training schedule here on BT totally prepared me. I was hoping to have a 3:15 race time and beat that goal by 5 minutes! Can't wait to do this again next year, a better swimmer, biker and runner!

  • Comments: My horrible race last year had a finish time of 3:25:35. This year I managed to drop that down to 2:56:50, almost a 30 minute improvement! Even if the run course was a bit short (~.18 miles by my Garmin) I'd still have come in well under 3 hrs. This is a rough course but very satisfying to finish it.

  • Comments: I was pretty disappointed with my overall time. I think I gave away at least 10 minutes on the swim and several more in T1. However, I think the bike was pretty solid compared to my performance at Tempe Town Lake races. This bike course didn't have much in the way of technical turns, etc, but had more significant hills and the road is pretty rough in some places, making you want to ride on the road (which isn't closed to traffic). This whole race is so much more challenging than a Tempe race and I'm glad I did it. I'll do it again next year to hopefully redeem myself in the water. • Comments: Seriously, who has a race without Gatorade at the finish line.. how sad. There are more things that I can talk about but I dont want a worst taste in my mouth.... I didnt come in last over all, but I did in the bike/run and in my age group. How sad is that?? I was so not mentally perpared for this race. Now i know better.. Everyone was saying that the swim course was short, I don’t think it was but Im not contestant enough to tell. The RD did say that the bike was alittle shorter and the run was longer, that was because the T!/T2 area was moved further south.. If I were to look at this race from an improvement position I should be happy. However, I felt that I could have finish 3:25 min with all of the training that I have done. I have improved in all areas and yet this race made it look like I haven’t done anything different since last year.. Even though this is only my second Olympic Triathlon I expected more of an improvement. Now I have to sign up for Nathan’s, to see

  • Comments: Based on recent training improvements, I had harbored a secret goal of possibly breaking 3:00 for this race. At the very least, I wanted to best my Olympic PR of 3:36 from Havasu. Coming in at 3:17, I felt like I would have gotten it if it weren't for the lousy run. However, after thinking it through, I realize that this was probably not realistic. I was happy with my bike and swim, so the time would have had to come from transitions and the run. I could have saved two minutes at each transition, and still would have had to make up 13 minutes. That would mean that I would have needed to run at around a 10:00/mile pace for the entire run. While I can do that in a standalone training session on flat road, I just don't think it would have been possible under those conditions. I still think I have a sub-3:00 Oly in me, but not on that course on that day. I'll take the 20 minute reduction in Oly PR and call it a good race. Overall, a good race and a good experience. I just wanted

  • Comments: They broke down the finish line at 7 hours (when people were still on the race course) and tore down most of transition about 6 1/2 hours into the race. They ran out of finishers medels for those doing the half - and just seemed to not care at the end of the race that it was not over for the participants yet. My personal recommendation is to find a different race for you first 70.3. (I did the oly race but they stoped posting results on this race before me or my freinds were listed.)

  • Comments: I'm giving this race a 3 out of 5 because they took down the course before 7 hours for the HIM racers and didn't have enough medals for the participants.

  • Comments: First year they sold out at 750 people. They did NOT have enough bike racks and argued with people for half an hour about it before they finally brought out another rack. They stopped posting Oly times just after the 3 hour mark, and at the 7hr mark on the HIM, they deflated the finnish line, took people's bikes off the racks and laid them down (to put away the rack), and ran out of medals. So people spent $200 to do a HIM in the POURING rain, put in a respectible time of 7hrs, and all the get is a timing mat and like 10 people standing around who MIGHT notice them coming in. There were still about 5 people on the course when we left, and I felt so bad for them. Horrible. The only GOOD thing was that they had kayakers this year! What a concept! High altitude race = lots of people freaking out in the water. Maybe a few kayaks would be helpfull!! Boo on this race! It's beautiful. That's it.

  • Comments: I was surprised that my overall time was only a minute slower than the Tempe OLY. I would love to do this race again, the weather was great (until the rain) and it was a fun weekend away! I didnt have my camera but I know there will be many fun pictures circulating!
