  • Comments: Crossing the mat at the end was an awesome experience. Hearing that I was an Ironman was great but having my wife and son working as catchers to share in the moment was huge!! To see the look on there faces crossing the line one hour and forty minutes earlier than they were expecting me made for a memory I'll never forget.

  • Comments: What a great race. Signed up for 2012 and I’m glad I did. Great volunteer support all around the course. Swim was great, bike was a bit slower than I needed to be but I didn’t know and the run was, for me, fabulous. I’ll take a sub 5 hour marathon in an IM any day. My transition times were terrible but I can fix that. Not sure I’ll do much different for next year. Push the bike a little faster on the bike and that’s about it.

  • Comments: Great race Well organized and many small but good improvement over last year Aid stations and volunteers were super as were the fans and other athletes. Doing this race with good friends and new friends, with my husband out there supporting me, knowing BT friends world wide was pulling for me is precious. Thank you everyone for your support and inspiration. My hope is to continue in the multisport lifestyles for years to come. In what form I will participate will depend on how I recover from surgery tomorrow.

  • Comments: (!!!This is my final journal entry from the day after the race!!!) Its 5 am. The Day After. Its never felt so good to hurt so bad. My feet and legs and neck and tummy all feel horrid. My soul feels like I won the lottery. If you are a first timer you probably are doing what I did..pouring over race reports looking for some nugget that says you will finish. My advice which was gained from four years of tris and being coached by good coaches boils down to two things... 1. Have a plan for what you will do, wear and eat race day and practice it over and over like a dress rehersal. Then dont change it race day as if finishing depends on it because it does. 2. Race day ride the bike as slow as you ever have even if you are lance armstrong. Today feels like the first day of a new life. Today I am someone different. I am a success story in my own pathetic little way. I owe it to so many people to thank them. All I can feel is happiness and pride. I wonder what my life will

  • Comments: I would love to thank my husband Kevin, for being such a wonderfulhusband and supporter because he was out there doing alot of the training with Dotti and I for no glory. My girls let me be a slacker Mom almost all summer so I could go train and for that I am grateful. All I can say is that without Dotti Porter talking me into doing this race and doing almost all of our training together, I would not have beat my goal time by 40 min. This is something that I had said I would NEVER DO. So glad that I did!!! Loved all the training, the race was amazing, the weather almost perfect. Who could ask for more? I will do this again!!!

  • Comments: Having put items into specific Ziploc bags ahead of time is a great idea. I know it helped the organizational needs, and I know now that it will speed up transition times, if I am so inclined. Thanks to KathyG, Socks and Bar92 (Briana) for reminding me to do this! I think the biggest factors for me were: 1) people said it many times, but - Have plan A, and plan B, and plan C. I think it is so important to the success of the effort that you remain flexible. Granted, I was not one of those trying to qualify for any podium positions, but knowing what to change in order to reach my goal was key; 2) if you don’t enjoy it, don’t do it! And PLAN to enjoy it! - Yes, people complained about the wind on the bike, and even though I was worried the night before about the water, I was still going to give it my best. There were so many people who really looked like they were not enjoying the race, and I really felt bad for them… guess it is because I know what I have gone through to get here, and maybe

  • Comments: The volunteers were amazing. I really can not say enough about how great they were. From the swim, transitions, bike, and run, they were all amazing the entire day. Petty Complaints: - PCB needs to finish the road construction before I return. It made navigation for my family difficult. - Finisher T-shirt for 2011 kinda blows. I would rather receive one of the volunteer shirts. - The medal is too busy. I was hoping for a simple round design, with Ironman Florida printed on it. Other than that, I loved this race. Total quality from top to bottom, and I would recommend this race to anyone. Race Results Overview: - Gave up @ 20 minutes in the non-current swim compared to B2B - Gave up time on both transitions, amount of time unknown since I am missing T1 at B2B. - Shaved about 20 minutes off the bike - Shaved about 8 minutes off the run - Shaved 4:26 off my ironman PR at B2B - 170 of 2,921 OA or top 5% - 22 of 243 AG (that finished) or top 10% of AG I

  • Comments: I tried to calculate my calorie intake and execute it during the race. Although I "winged it" on the last run loop I think the rest was pretty close. Judging by the tri calculator at http://www.tri-talk.com/TriTalkNC/TriTalkNC.htm I needed to take in 4056 calories. I actually took in 3429. I took in 254 calories an hour (calculator calls for 300. This was the best race experience I have ever known. Here is a highlights video. My girlfriend is in it a couple of times. She did awesome and beat my time by 25 minutes. IMFL" target="_blank" title="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6p5mSISOf-Y&feature=youtu.be">IMFL">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6p5mSISOf-Y&feature=youtu.be">IMFL Race Highlights 2011 This was one of the best experiences I have ever had. There is nothing that can compare to an ironman experience. This video here is for the volunteers who made it happen http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XTrPTKR6JB8 When it was all over we took pictures and walked the beach. I was treated like a person on a cruise ship. Everyone was wanting to get me anything I needed.

  • Comments: The British poet Robert Browning wrote : 'Oh that a man's reach should exceed his grasp, or what's a heaven for ?' WTC put on quite a spectacle. I was hugely impressed with the organisation, the numbers of volunteers, the police at the intersections, the attention to detail. This is truly a great experience from the start of the week to the end of the race. For me and the family it was also an endurance event in so many different ways. From the drive down from Maryland, to the financial endurance you need in the Ironman store, to the race itself, to then the queuing the next day for more kit, SN bags, photos and everything else. And so my first Ironman is completed. It was absolutely everything I thought it would be ... apart from an examination of my soul in the last hour of the marathon. I trained well, I trained smartly, I executed my race plan perfectly. I didn't go into dark spaces, I didn't need my coping mechanisms (reciting Kings and Queens of Britain, Prime Ministers,

  • Comments: OUTSTANDING work by all of the volunteers. Hands down this was the best support I have ever seen at an event. This includes other 70.3 IM events and some decent sized marathon's. If you are a first timer you couldn't ask for a better situtation for race support. The only negative was the ridiculous amount of drafting on the bike, especially with the headwind factor. I had one "peloton" of 30 riders go by at mile 12. C'mon gang.. this is triathlon. Be true to yourself.

  • Comments: Great Race and even better Volunteers!! They were amazing and made my day that much easier...a special mention to the guy at mile 22-23 that ran coke up to me b/c they weren't ready when I ran by...dude you are the man!!! Great race for both a beginner in me and a machine like Coldfire.

  • Comments: Choosing IMFL for my first Ironman was the best decision. I am taking a brake but I think I'll come back here and will try to improve in ALL aspects. Great race, great venue, awesome volunteers. And the great memory of becoming an Ironman! Priceless...

  • Comments: I could not really sleep in much and when i looked out at 6am and saw people lining up for the IM store and to register for 2013 i was a bit stunned. In hindsight i should have gotten in line for the IM store, nearly all teh 'finisher' gear was gone by 930-10am

  • Comments: I like Panama City and I like the course for the most part. It's Florida and there's not much to see, really. I live two hours away where it's the same landscape. This was my first IM so I it was really a great race for me. It was a good day to become an Ironman and I will do many more Lord willing. Race volunteers were exceptional! IM wouldn't be near as good without the dedicated volunteers.

  • Comments: So many people to thank. I am such a lucky girl to have had so many people on the course cheering for me. 1-My sweet pumpkin. It meant so much to me to have him there to share this race. He did a great job as iron sherpa and it was significantly difficult for him to make this trip happen. I'm just pleased beyond words that he was able to make it and it was just amazing to have his support all weekend 2-My coach Will Kirousis of Tri-Hard coaching. Will and I have been on a now 6 year journey and he has seen me thru a lot. He works with me thru my sometimes difficult schedule and unruly body. Thanks Will for getting me to the finish yet again 3-My mom and dad. Another IM in the books. Here is hoping ofr good things for my mom in the near future but it was so great to be able to see them and give her a great big hug 4-Wendi, Jeff, Jen and all the other BTers out there cheering for me!!! You guys are the best and I appreciate all the support more than you can know 5-Team

  • Comments: First Ironman experience so nothing to compare to but, very enjoyable race. Would definitely do this one again in the future. Many variables on bike and run (water conditions/current as well as wind). Took a lot out of family life to train but if it was easy they'd call it football.
