  • Comments: I have mixed feelings about this race. Although I met my time goals for the bike and run, the swim just buried me. At first I thought they might cancel (or at least make optional) the swim because of the 3-6 foot swells, but there was no announcement of it in the race briefing with the start gun going off a couple of minutes after the briefing. I really don't think I'll compete in this race if the ocean swells are like what I experienced on race day.

  • Comments: I'm not really sure how to finish this race report. I'm still a little ticked, even after a couple of glasses of wine. I would have won my age group and placed 12th overall instead of 19th, but.....I got a penalty. Apparently the USAT ref thought the tag that orange jersey and I was playing on the bike, constituted an overtaking penalty. Both of us received a 2 minute penalty. The funny thing was, I never once saw the ref during the bike. Where was he and why didn't he say something? The first time I realized I had a penalty was when I was looking at the race results printed out on the side of the trailer. As soon as I noticed it, I went looking for the ref. I had no idea why I got a penaly. He stated that it was an overtaking penalty, I didn't drop back far enough when passed. Same thing for the orange jersey, he got the same. The ref said, " I knew you didn't know the rule." ( I knew it, and I complied). I said, "I know the rule and I followed it. But I'm not going to argue

  • Comments: Not bad. The surf was a fight during the swim though. The traffic on the roads caused some frustrations too.

  • Comments: Maybe I'm soured by my problem with my toe, but this was a terrible location to conduct a swim. I even had a lifeguard tell me he hit a rock when he jumped off his board at the shore. In addition to the broken toe, I suffered a scrape on my left foot. As I swam, I also kept brushing my finger tips across the rocks and reef. The race started late (by 10 minutes) and when I asked several volunteers where to get medical aid, none knew where to send me nor did anyone offer help. I was very disappointed and I only hope to heal enough to be able to compete in my next race so I don't end the season on this sour note.

  • Comments: I just realized when filling out the Plenty of Drink stations question...normally at the start of the run I drink a good half a cup of water, but because I missed the entrance I also missed the water station. Perhaps this had something to do with the cramps? I don`t know?? Afterward my hubby rewarded me with Cold Stone ice-cream....man that place is just the best rewarding place in the world!!! The medal is pretty with red, white and blue ribbons and the medal is round with swim, bike, run pictures on it. I like it alot, and am very lucky to have it...I don`t deserve it after that run performance. As I said to Mark, there was probably only 3 of us in that age group....he told me not to tell anyone that!
