  • Comments: The event is smaller, 100 participants, so 3 port o potty's may not be a huge issue, but the lack of them at the start was frustrating. This event was well supported, plenty of aid stations, and ice, water, heed, gels.

  • Comments: I was kind of disappointed with a couple things, the course being mis calculated on two legs was my biggest downer though. The bike aid stations were pretty poor. The water bottles had the caps removed so water just sprayed everywhere and didn't make it any easier to drink. The event just seemed a little disorganized. There was no pre race meeting and we didn't receive really any information in our race packets. The finishers medals were about as basic as you could get. But for a local race and a decent price it wasn't to bad. Like I said earlier I would like to come back and drop my time next year, hopefully if they get distances right that will be a lot easier ;)

  • Comments: Its getting better...but for a race that has been a staple of the NW for 30 years, the growing pains for a new RD is getting a little old. congrats to NW boys michael gordon and ben greenfield...amazing athletes!

  • Comments: This was the 29th annual Troika, and the first year under a new director. Improvements over last year were POPs on the bike course (YAY!), race water bottles given before, not during, the race, no long mandatory race meeting the day before the race, and very visible technical support on the course. Continuing race positives were the course - I really like the course, the director and volunteers were easy to spot and very accessible, Hammer as a sponsor, Fitness Fanatics (local tri shop) as a sponsor, plenty of aid stations, the post race food, plenty of ice and water and other goodies at the stations - well, the mind boggles, but there were a lot of good things about this race. Things that could have been better this year were better-trained run aid station volunteers (one group of young girls were huddled over away from the table while the sponge-hander-outer and sole adult sat in a lawn chair reading a paper when I came by), better trained bike catching volunteers (there were

  • Comments: under a new RD this year...only thing that I didn't like was the awards ceremony wasn't until 3 pm (when the course was closed), good for the slower finishers, but bad for the AGers who had to wait around for 3 hours

  • Comments: Troika - Enjoyed the race focus on HIM, not really a family circus type event like some of the area multisport weekends, its all business and loaded with serious athletes. Glad to race on a team, allows for focus on one segement and let 'er rip. But, 2 years in to triathlons I can see passing on races this time of year to avoid some heat.

  • Comments: This race is a blast! I PR'ed this year in spite of everything, mostly because I ran faster than last year. Everything is right on time, the volunteers are just great and the finish sandwich is really yummy. I did the whole race on InfiniT for the 1st time and it worked really well. I used a concentrate on the ride with a bit more protein and on the run, used the short distance formula with less protein and my system tolerated this really well. I'll stick with it for sure. I'll volunteer next year for sure. And the sweatshirts are zip up hoodies in bright blue, the best ever!

  • Comments: I had a marvelous race! Ann talked me into this (like it took two minutes...let's face it, I love this kind of stuff) in February. It sure seemed like a better idea THEN than it did all this week before the race! Honestly I went into it very very nervous, but that's part of the reason I do these things. They scare me. If I know I can do something, no problem, where is the challenge! I love endurance events because you never know what might happen. Plus you get TIME to enjoy the scenery. I loved seeing the Spokane area in a whole new way. I'd love to take Roy out on that bike ride. I loved the new people I met, even if all we did was exchange a "Looking good" as we passed each other. I enjoyed every single volunteer, and tried to thank every one of them. Thank you volunteers! Things I learned from mistakes I made: -Train harder on the bike next year so the pain is minimal. -Nerves before the race are normal, but you can't let them rule you -Eyes are an important part of the swim component

  • Comments: The race directors and volunteers at this race do a really great job, and Great Harvest Bread Company puts together an awesome meal at the finish line. The bike is really fun, but the run is very hot. You have to make sure you drink a lot or you will pay for it. I was upset last year because I saw a lot of cheaters (drafting, blocking, pacing), but this year it seems like they really got that under control. If you want to set a PR for T2, you can't beat Troika. There's just one negative about this race: The scary turn at mile 55 is pretty dangerous and has surprised me every year. I know a few people crashed there, so they should put a warning sign up as you approach the turn.

  • Comments: I think they do a very good job with this race. There are a lot of volunteers, the course is challenging and well marked, they provide water for the bike segment - although it would work better for me if it was a little earlier in the ride, and there are plenty of aid stations on the run. It starts on time and I like the venue. The post-race meal is great, and the finish is in a city park so there is a place for kids to play while they wait. The only thing that needs to change is that they really need a POP on the bike course. I plan to do this race again, but I'll probably volunteer next year then do it the year after.

  • Comments: This is a fun local race. Not a ton of support, but fun. Only 2 aid stations on the bike, but aid stations every mile of the run. The point to point race is fun, but next time I would cooridinate with buddies to have a vehicle to take us to the start instead of the bus.

  • Comments: This race was tricky for me, because I did it all by myself. The transitions are in different places, so the logistical side of things would be easier if I had a little support crew. Despite the complicated logistics, the race directors and volunteers made everything go smoothly. The scenery and varying terrain on the bike makes it fun (and fast). The run is a little boring, but everyone is in survival mode at that point, so I don't think anyone minds. Oh yeah, I posted what I think is the bike route in the route manager in case anyone wants to look at it for next year.

  • Comments: This was a fun race! The event is very well organized and the volunteers did a great job. They had enough water stations on the run this year (twice as many as last year) and were sponsored by HammerNutrition, which conveniently is the fuel I prefer and train with so they were stocked with all the stuff I would have otherwise carried with me. :) They allowed one earbud for music on the run this year. I can understand people not wanting to wear music when they race, but I enjoyed having some tunes with me. I hope they continue this. Every year there seems to be a worry about whether the lake will be cool enough for wetsuits, but the two years I've been there they were allowed. If you swim in the lake for practice, go early in the morning - the lake smells horrible later in the afternoon. I was in it a few weeks ago and was quite worried about having to swim in it again, but it was fine on race morning. I hope to be back next year.

  • Comments: Absolutely fantastic organization that runs this race. I hope I can work it in to my 2008 schedule. The volunteers were fantastic and there were aid stations at every mile of the run.

  • Comments: I had a great time at this race. It was well-organized (the organizing group has been doing this for a long time) the course was clearly marked, and there were lots of volunteers. They had police at every corner where we were not following the rules of the road (through stopsigns, etc) and volunteers throughout the course. They stood in the hot sun for a long time waiting for me, and I am very grateful to them. The run stations were staffed by very friendly people who were right on top of things. The only disappointment was in the swag - I got one gel and one sample packet of Endurolytes in my bag. The water bottles were handed out on the bike course, and you had to finish to get your sweatshirt. HOWEVER, any profit made on this race is given to several local charities - this wasn't publicized, but they mentioned it at the pre-race meeting, so I'm not complaining too much about the thinness of my race bag. I would recommend this race, and hope to do it again next year.
