I follow a computer program that tracts everything I eat and measures the calories I burn but according to this program I am taking in way too much protein.

"I am a big guy doing a Tri. I really just got into it last year as a result of a little medical scare almost exactly a year ago. I have a pretty disciplined workout regimen and have increased from working out once a day for an hour five days a week to where I now work out minimum twice a day but usually three times a day and then do some recreational sport three or four evening a week. Since I really increased the number of workouts and time in the gym I am starting to see the weight melt away.
I was getting a bit fatigued by rest day every week until I started adding protein supplement to my diet. That's one of my questions. I follow a computer program that tracts everything I eat and measures the calories I burn but according to this program I am taking in way too much protein. I am currently 211 lbs (started at 250) and have a goal weight of 190. I am averaging around 150g of protein a day. [.....]

It all depends on what you're doing. I am an Ironman distance triathlete and had a goal weight of 175. Protein intake around 140-150 keeps my body recovering and blood sugar regulated. You may note that calorie counting programs aren't usually set up for athletes. Typical note: If you aren't recovering in a timely manner, increase protein; if you can't complete properly planned workouts, your CHO is too low. Aside from that, decrease in calories and increase in activity will better your physique.
you have a good point about finding out what your body needs but in an effort to properly recover and provide your body with the right type/amount of essential amino acids, it is important that you focus on the quality of protein and the timing. A whey protein smoothie w/ fruit, yogurt and milk alongside a bowl of dry cereal or granola would provide your body with the amino acids to recover quickly, more so than a 30g protein bar. Whereas calories are important, I find that athletes have a much easier time recoverying and fueling for workouts by focusing on the types of foods in the diet (including carbs) rather than only calories/grams.
Thanks for your input!
