Take a Break from Racing...It may be a Good Idea

If you are able to honestly look at your routine and find the balance, you will be a happier person and a happier athlete as well.

As I watch the conclusion of the pros at Ironman Hawaii on www.ironmanlive.com tonight, many emotions come to my mind. As a triathlete, I think, “Will I ever complete that race? Will I ever be able to run a 3:30 Marathon after a 2.4mile ocean swim and a 112 mile bike ride?”

 

Most of us triathletes are very competitive and very motivated people. We get up at 5AM or earlier to go swim, and skip lunch at work to run 4-5 miles. We train in the heat and in the cold, with rain and snow, sometimes even when we are injured. We do incredible acrobatics to fit our workouts in our already busy schedule.

 

The motivation required to train for such hard events can have incredible positive effects on our life. This is proven continuously by testimonials in the forum on this website and others. [.....]
