Swim
Comments: Felt okay through the first 500m and then I started to struggle a little; I want to swim close to where I am for my 1500mTT but I just wasn't able to come close today. Transition 1
Comments: Fast Bike
Comments: I felt good on the bike but just couldn't quite push the pace I wanted. Early in the bike Eric went by and my goal was to keep him in sight for as long as possible. In addition, Guy and Liam were just in front of me and John just behind. My goal was to hold my own and catch anyone that I could. The wind was picking up and at times I was really fighting just to keep the speed above 25km/h while at other points I was flying. I was able to limit my loses (only lost 30" to Eric) but still not the best ride I have had. What would you do differently?: Ride harder (or skip the Thursday TT). Transition 2
Comments: Fast Run
Comments: Felt good and was immediately into chase mode. On the first lap I wanted to catch as many as possible from the wave who were in front and at about the halfway point I had caught Liam, Guy and John. I kept moving as I knew Eric was just up the road (he had 37 seconds off the bike) and I was cutting into his lead. Coming through lap 1, Jay told me that Eric was less than 30 seconds up and to go get him. I focused on running smooth and strong and reeling him back in. I put another few seconds on him on the second lap and had him in sight (probably 20 seconds back) starting lap three. I worked like mad trying to reel him in and about halfway through the lap he was only about 15 seconds up when he caught sight of me and put in a surge. He opened the gap a little but on the final downhill I was able to close to about 10 seconds but with less than 400m to go, I knew he had me beaten. So, while he sprinted it out, I checked my shoulder and with the coast clear, cruised in to the finish. What would you do differently?: Run faster :) - I should have been able to catch Eric, just a little harder effort during lap 2 and I would have had him. Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: Wind on the ride and small loss of focus on lap 2 of the run. Event comments: Great reace; didn't quite win the chase at the end but solid performance anyway. I was faster in each of the disciplines and 1:10 faster than last year.
