Swim
Comments: Went from bad to worse quick. Dolphin dive resulted in goggles full of water. Got so caught up in the whole thing that I just went all out. Had trouble breathing after about 30 seconds. No semblance of form. Had trouble getting around people. Oh well. What would you do differently?: Calm down and just race my race. I'm hoping it was just first time jitters that made me blow up like I did. Transition 1
Comments: Didn't leave my shoes clipped it. If I wasn't so winded from the swim, I probably would've been a little quicker, but over all I just need to do it more. What would you do differently?: Glad I practiced before hand. Made it a lot easier. Would be nice to learn to do a flying mount, but other than that. Did as well as I could. Bike
Comments: Bike was good even considering the huge hill. Came so close to walking, but there was a group of little kids cheering and writing people's numbers on the road in sidewalk chalk. That was pretty cool so I managed to push through. I did feel like I was going to puke at the top though. What would you do differently?: Train more hills. Transition 2
Comments: I thought the final turn of the bike course was the turn into the transition so I pulled out of my shoes thinking as much. Made the last half mile, especially the climb, interesting. The transition itself went well though. What would you do differently?: Know the course better so I don't have to climb on top of my shoes. Run
Comments: That nauseous feeling I got on the bike stuck around through most of the run. I felt like I was going to puke for the first half of it. I did walk for the 1:00 leading into the big decent. As soon as I hit the 2.5 mile mark my brain decided I was close enough to the end to feel good again. That last stretch was done at probably a 6:00+ min/mile with a good sprint across the finish line. What would you do differently?: Just train more. Post race
Warm down: Light stretch. Had a bagel, banana and a bottle of water. What limited your ability to perform faster: Nerves and hill climbing ability. Event comments: First year they did it, and it was my first tri. Seemed well organized. Started almost on time (scheduled to start at 8:00 wave 1 was swimming at 8:05). I enjoyed it and I'm looking forward to a long tri career :) Last updated: 2009-07-09 12:00 AM
