Toronto to Grimsby

I've always wanted to ride my bike from my house to my mothers... Toronto to Grimsby.
I know there are groups that do the Niagara ride once a year but I never can swing it and would rather go solo.

I've looked at maps and am trying to figure out the best route - *really* want low traffic (skiddish in traffic).  I've found some maps that show Lakeshore to Plains Rd to Main Street.  I'm thinking I'd hop on Beach Blvd to Ridge Road and ride it across and down.

Has anyone ever done this ride?  And if so - any suggestions or tips?
