Comments: Was on pace for a sub 4 hr race until stomach got a knot in it around 18 and at 20 that knot began twisting and turning. Lost about 6 minutes over the last 6 miles. Was a real mental challenge to keep running. What would you do differently?: do not violate the cardinal rule of eating and/or drinking unknown food stuffs. In addition to the banana nut bread, i drank the activater given on the course. i never had it before and generally stick to water. bad, bad, bad decision. Post race
Warm down: walked around the staging area, went down to the water and soaked legs in the cold atlantic water. What limited your ability to perform faster: violating the cardinal eat/drink rule. Event comments: nice, little race. the mile markers beginning around mile 15 were off. some volunteers put drinks in cardboard box for the running to retrieve - very bad idea. post race festivities were good - pancakes, bananas, oranges, cookies, bagels, some sort of tortilla thing, different types of drinks, unlimited beer. made a HUGE mistake and ate banana nut bread which I never ate before a long run. Paid for it later. Took a couple of endurolytes as I knew the temps would climb with the humidity. Had about 8 oz of fluid.
