Swim
Comments: Water was freezing cold. Kept trying to tell myself not to freak out, but didn't work. I felt like my wetsuit was choking me no matter how I adjusted it. I just couldn't get my breathing under control. I started off to the right away from the mass and didn't have many issues with getting beat up. After rounding the last bouy, I just told myself to HTFU and get it overwith as quickly as possible. Last 200m was better than first 550m. Very disappointed in swim. What would you do differently?: Practice more OWS. Only did two before race. I feel the cold had a lot to do with it as well. Just couldn't keep my face in the water very long. Transition 1
Comments: T1 wasn't too bad. Irritated with my swim so it kind of carried over to T1. What would you do differently?: Leave swim performance in water and not let it carry over to rest of race. Bike
Comments: Felt really weak so I didn't attack the hills like I should have. Not pleased with performance. I know I could have done better but I believe pre-race nutrition played a role in this. Forgot to take gel with me leaving T1 so only race nutrition was gel just before swim. Newbie mistake. What would you do differently?: Work on nutrition the week prior to race. Grab gel to take on bike. Transition 2
Comments: Felt good about T2. Probably could have shaved a few more seconds off, but feel good about it. What would you do differently?: Not much Run
Comments: Didn't fare well on run. Nutrition played a role in this as well. Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: Nutrition. It was a long drive before race and I wasn't able to fully relax or eat like I should have. I need to work on this. I wasn't feeling it before the race or during. Wish I had performed better as this was my first tri and wanted to set the bar high. Event comments: First tri so really nothing to compare it to. Lacking volunteers (30 cancelled day before race) but they still put on a good show with what they had. Challanging course. Would love to do it next year. Last updated: 2010-04-07 12:00 AM

Woke up early enough to have breakfast and be able to get ready without feeling rushed. My motel was only about 10-15 from the event so I was able to sleep in some.
Didn't do much by way of warmup. There were about 30 volunteers who cancelled at the last minute so getting body marked took a little longer than expected. The line was just beginning to form when I arrived but I was able to get marked and transition set up with plenty of time to spare. Set up transition and got into wetsuit. Got into water to try to get adjusted to cold water temps (60 degrees) and calm the nerves before race start.
