Swim
Comments: I really kicked into gear for the swim; but I did very little kicking. My kick stinks to begin with; but I wanted to see if I could go above LT with a different set of muscles and still be ok to B and R. What would you do differently?: Nothing Transition 1
Comments: First time doing a flying mount onto shoes in a race. Pretty cool! LONG run to T1 from water.....300yards maybe??? What would you do differently?: Be more cordgial to the Oly guy who ran into me by the mount line! Bike
Comments: What little hill training I had an opportunity to do was down a valley and then up the other side. This was climbing...with some climbing and then a steep descent. I took the hills fairly smart; but they were still tough on me. My HR was around 90% for most of the bike....ughhh! I was in either 2nd or 3rd place going into T2. What would you do differently?: Train hills better and buy an electric dog collar to shock me into submission when my HR goes above 85% of max. I HAVE NO SELF CONTROL! Transition 2
Comments: Again, first time unbuckling and riding on top of shoes for last few hundred yards. Went okay. Wasn't planning on jumping off a moving bike...but I did it anyways...around a corner. Luckily nobody got hurt! What would you do differently?: Absolutely nothing! Run
Comments: Well after keeping my HR in the 90% area for the bike you can imagine how the run went. It was much better than past races (9 to 11 min miles..yuck) however and the last portion was downhill. Got passed with about a mile to go to drop out of contention for some hardware. What would you do differently?: Save more on the bike I guess. Could I have stayed in 3rd place by dropping some speed on the bike or would he have caught me anyways??? Post race
Warm down: 10 minutes of walkin' around w/ a big grin on my face! What limited your ability to perform faster: My inability to control my tempo on the bike? Event comments: I say the overall course was hard only because of the hills...I am a big framed guy with broad shoulders and large quads. It favored more of a small framed climber. But it wasn't that bad in reality...just my training regiment I guess. I saw one biker get bad directions and the run course could have used 1 more volunteer/sign at a critical point early in the run....but it wasn't that bad. Last updated: 2010-06-28 12:00 AM
