Comments: I'm not sure what it is about cooler water but I just was never able to get comfortable. My breathing was off and every time I tried to put my face down, I start gasping. So I just went slow and steady, knowing I needed to get done with plenty of energy for a long day. What would you do differently?: More training in cooler waters. I've gotten over my anxiety in the open water, now I just need to get more acclimated to the cooler water. Transition 1
Comments: Just getting all my stuff on for the bike. Nothing really bad to note. What would you do differently?: Not where a jersey on the bike and just wear the tri suit for the entire race. Bike
Comments: Once I realized the entire course was rolling hills, I knew I was in trouble. So I just strapped in and went along for the ride, completely bonked out around mile 40 and had to just continue pushing from there. There was about 15 total miles of Chip Seal on the road so it was very bumpy and vibrated the bike badly. What would you do differently?: More hill training, as much as possible as often as possible. Transition 2
Comments: Took a little longer to put on the calf compression socks, but other than that was just a transition. What would you do differently?: Nothing, expect get quicker putting my stuff on. Run
Comments: The bike took a lot out of me so I knew the run was going to be difficult but overall I think considering the terrible swim and bike, I'll take a 12:00/mile pace. What would you do differently?: Continue running, more bricks at the longer distances. Post race
Warm down: Stretched and tried to relax. Had some pizza, water, and perform. What limited your ability to perform faster: A lack of hill training for the bike and whatever is going on during the cooler swims. Event comments: Given the amount of reorganization needed just before the race due to road resurfacing and a lower than normal lake. I think the race was run well. Hopefully the roads will be finished by next year and I'll be ready to come back and try again. Last updated: 2011-08-15 12:00 AM

Stayed at Candlewood in The Woodlands and woke up early to have a bagel with almond butter and a banana, also some coffee. Showered, got the family together and headed out to the race at about 4:45.
Setup transition and milled around for a bit. Then went out to the swim start to jump in the water for a bit.
