Swim
Comments: wade start was a cluster, I was too far back and it was all we could do for the first 100m to keep from on top of each other til the pack thinned out. It was difficult to settle in and get comfortable so I strained myself a bit more than I'd wanted to but the time split was what I was aiming for so I'm fine with how that went down. What would you do differently?: I'd move further ahead to avoid the cluster Transition 1
Bike
Comments: The bike is where the proverbial trained derailed and my goal of a top 5 AG finish was put out of reach (well that and the field being stacked compared to previous years). As soon as I do a running mount on the bike, and shift the front derailleur (the wrong direction, which it shouldn't be able to do) it fell off the granny gear and got jammed between the sprocket and bottom bracket assembly. It took me at least 10 minutes to get it unjammed. Transition 2
Run
Comments: 2nd sprint tri, with no improvement on the run. This time no cramps, legs felt fine even after going hard on the bike (without the 10 min lost for the chain, I was doing around 19 mph on the bike which was near my goal of 20). With my legs feeling fine and no cramps I should have been able to pull of a modest 27 min 5k which was my goal, but I had to walk at least 10 times to avoid vomiting. I've determined that it was the river water I took in on the swim that created this problem, as it persisted for a few days after the race. Oh well, what can ya do. Post race
