Pre-race routine:

Breakfast about 3 hours before the race. Had a banana and Clif bar about 2 hours before the race. Got to the race plenty early.
Event warmup:

Lots of time for warm up running. Short sprints, high knees, butt-kicks, light stretching.

Comments:

It was so quick that I really didn't get warmed up. I just kicked as hard as I could and kept thinking about getting into the transition ahead of any crowds.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. Strategy worked good.
Transition 1
  • 01m 35s
Comments:

Good transition. I put the shoes on at the bike pick-up and ran in them. I really didn't want to get my socks wet from the wet grass while running to the bike mount line.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.

Comments:

Felt really good about this ride. I pushed pretty hard all the way. Took about 4 minutes off my time from last year. Kind of hard to compare to last year though since I didn't have to swim prior.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 2
  • 01m 10s
Comments:

My fastest transition ever! Getting better.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 43m 43s
  • 6.2 miles

Comments:

Great run. I really pushed the rate but felt pretty relaxed until the last mile. I was able to close and pass two runners well in front of me in the last mile. Nearly picked off a 20-something in the last 200 yds, but then he saw me and turned it on. I walked through all three aid stations in order to on-board one cup of heed and one cup of water.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Post race
Warm down:

Brisk walk around finish area, then into the transition area for a thorough stretch.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Bike

Event comments:

For having the swim cancelled due to algae in the lake, it still turned out to be a good time and good experience.

After doing duathlons for the last couple of years, I decided to go for a triathlon. Starting with an Olympic-distance race perhaps wasn't wise, but it was fun (of a sort).

Ever since running that marathon I have been experiencing stiffness and discomfort in my left foot, from the fourth and fifth metatarsals to about my mid foot.

This summer, I am planning on doing three triathlons. What should my strategy be for training, tapering and resting during, before and after each race?

"I was wondering if this is a sensible approach? Should I get "better" on short distance and then move to something longer or do what I want if I feel I can do it whatever the time?"

Bricks refer to training on two disciplines during the same workout.
