Nil - was an arvo race so it was a long day
Swim
  • 14m 35s
  • 750 meters
  • 01m 56s / 100 meters
Comments:

Was swimming into a major head wind
What would you do differently?:

More swimming training, this was the most disappointing section of the tri.
Transition 1
  • 01m 7s
Comments:

First proper transition where I used rubber bands and ran onto the bike. Last tri I stopped in T1 and put shoes on before mounting the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Buy better rubber bands, one snapped in transition!
Bike
  • 32m 36s
  • 20 kms
  • 36.81 km/hr
Comments:

First hit out on the TT bike and what a difference. Was super comfortable however my seat post dropped an inch on the 2nd last lap as i went over a bump. Didnt affect me too much as i beat my last years bike time by 4 mins.
Tailwind saw me doing 48km/h on the first straight.
Headwind brought that back down to 30 km/h on the back straight.
What would you do differently?:

Tighten seatpost more, and convince the missus that spending $$ on a decent wheelset is good.
Transition 2
  • 00m 45s
Comments:

Was happy with the T2 performance.
Run
  • 21m 41s
  • 5 kms
  • 04m 20s  min/km
Comments:

Hit a wall 2 km's in... Super strong headwind made it uncomfortable however pushed through. Happy with run however wanted to go <4.20km
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

WIND!

Most of the races are flat here, but I live in the area where I could do hilly rides with 1500-2000m of climbing. Is there much benefit with that if I am racing flat?

After I left the running store, I couldn't stop thinking about the sprint tri and how much of a challenge it would be for me. So instead of joining a gym, I started riding my bike and it felt great.

I struggled on the bike while climbing the hill portions of the course. I do fine on long straight rides but really have a tough time while hill climbing. Any advice or training tips?

Can't run outside in the snow? Think again. I flew up the first hill with surprising ease and power. The Yaktrax gripped into the ice like racing spikes on a rubber track. Sweeeeet.

When we get ready to train or race, we have a pretty fixed set of thoughts. We are unaware of how they affect our racing.

Tri clubs offer all of us, from beginner to advanced athlete, a venue in which we can realign our perspective of what “fast” and “far” are, pushing us to new and greater heights of performance.

The 112/4 Race Rehearsal Brick. If done correctly, the RR is usually no more stressful than a regular training ride, and that is probably the point.

Club or group workouts are very motivating and soon you’ll start feeling like a triathlete, making you less likely to flake out.
