Swim
Comments: Swim went wet. Probably didn't need a wetsuit, but I didn't realize that until I got into the water to warm up. Only about 25 women in the first wave with me, so it was hard to find someone to draft off off because we got rather spread out. What would you do differently?: Probably not wear the wetsuit. Also course was a bit longer than the 1500 yeards I expected. Transition 1
Comments: It was at least a quater mile uphill run over gravel from the swim to the transition, which accounts for the really long transition time. I brought flip flops down to the ecah to put on after the swim, but ended up taking them off because I kept slipping. What would you do differently?: Bring sneakers and try to run a little more up the hill. Bike
Comments: The first twenty one miles went very well, I was averaging about 18 miles an hour, then it took me almost a half an hour to finish the last two. The course literally went straight uphill, and I weigh way too much to pull myself up that steep of a hill. At three points during the last two miles I ended up walking my bike. What would you do differently?: Clearly I need to do more hill work. Transition 2
Comments: Went well. Run
Comments: While I was slow, it wasn't bad considering that I tore my calf two weeks ago. I think with a little more healing time I could have been much faster. The last mile actually felt pretty good. Next time I like to be about 10 minutes faster though. What would you do differently?: Not be injured. Post race
Warm down: Packed up my stuff and hung around for awrds which were fairly nice. For coming in second in my group I got a little pie, a jar of honey and locally made soda. What limited your ability to perform faster: I'm getting betterm but: (1) I need to be completely injury free; (2) I need to take off the rest of the post-surgery weight, 7 pounds down, 20 to go; and (3) I just need to keep putting in good, hard training. I just wish the New England tri season wasn't so shirt. Event comments: Good course -- other than the last 2 miles of the bike. The lake was clear and wonderful. I'll definately be doing it again next year. Last updated: 2006-07-14 12:00 AM
