Water just before race - sat in my stomach, ugh
Breakfast was two Pop Tarts twohours before, and some coffee
Arrived 45 minutes early, about right
Event warmup:

Ran for about five minutes. A couple more would have been good. Started too far back so I had to dodge a lot of bodies in the beginning.

The usual kicks and stretches.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Gotta have chip timing at the start, because i really can't compare my time to my own previous efforts.

Performance: Average
There was chip timing for the finish, but not the start, so I ran maybe 15 seconds or so faster than what is posted - honest! That also means I don't have formal times, though I heard someone call out 8:16 at the mile market, so I must have run that at about 8:00 flat. Other splits - well couldn't get the watch to work.
Course: Two loops in Central Park, mild hills

At first I thought, "Oh boy, what a mistake!" Let’s face it, I could barely run half a mile, I had not swum in forever, and my biking skills were not great, to say the least.

The boat was being tossed around. Someone noted that there were whitecaps on the waves. Another guy said, “This is going to be challenging.” I began to wonder what he meant by 'challenging'.

It’s a challenge to push yourself a little harder and a little further. Be proud of every workout that is accomplished and every step-even the baby ones-that you take on this course to the finishline.

My sister warned me about being used as a launch ramp by faster swimmers but much to my surprise I was the one swimming over those in front of me. I went around one woman, then another.
