Swim
Comments: I worked fairly hard on the swim. There were less than 10 people in my wave, so it was not crowded at all. There were two guys with wetsuits, one of which pulled ahead at the start, but I think I caught him by the end while running to the transition. Not having a wetsuit gave me a quicker transition. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Transition 1
Comments: The race results had this transition at 2:19 but I had a minute faster. I'm not really sure where the time was supposed to be taken. The timing system they had had sensors on the sides and not on a mat and there was no beep to signify when the time was taken. What would you do differently?: I messed up a bit getting my bike racked. I need to work on that a bit. Bike
Comments: I was hoping for a faster bike segment, but it was not to be. I felt like I would have burned out my legs if I went much faster. I was not passed the entire race, although that is not saying much as I was in the last heat with the other old guys. It was still a bit foggy on the bike. My glasses were partially fogged up for most of the ride. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Transition 2
Comments: I had a bit of trouble racking my bike and also putting on one shoe I lost my balance and a few seconds. What would you do differently?: I decided before the race that I would not wear socks. This turned out to be OK for the race, but I did pay a price. I got several blisters. Next time i wear socks. Run
Comments: This was the best run I've had in a triathlon. I felt strong and kept close to a 7 minute pace. I've never been even close to this before. i was very pleased. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Post race
Warm down: No much besides walking around. What limited your ability to perform faster: I think my legs were still a bit weak on the bike from last week. I was not sore at all after this, atleast not until I got home. Event comments: They dropped the ball in several areas for this race. They neglected to give we a swim cap when I checked in, they did a lousy job of keeping athletes informed on the status of the fog, they made no announcements as to when the awards ceremony would be, and they waited until over half the people had left to tell people is was OK to eat the food. I woke up before my alarm at around 3:30am. I had my normal breakfast of cereal, juice and coffee. After I got my equipment organized, I did 10 minutes of yoga stretches before heading to the race site.
I did some light jogging, but things got a bit out of whack because of the dense fog. The race was supposed to start at 7:00, but my wave didn't get off until 8:30.
